    Aluminium singled longshot help

Post  AlmostExperts on Sat Apr 03, 2010 3:22 pm

Ok well I decided to get creative with my longshot after the boltsled broke..... So I singled it and since cpvc isn't avaliable in oz I went to aluminium..
The problem is that when I shoot it "just" leaves the barrel and falls to my feet!
If I muzzle load it it shoots further but fishtails like shit!!

I use stock darts... Could the rubber on the tip of the streamline be causing friction in the aluminium barrel? It's not like the darts fit tight in the barrel or anything..
Should I use stefans?? Will it improve it??

Stock darts dont fit Aluminium only stefans do. You know...The darts need to be tight other wise the air just rushed past the dart. what do you mean theres not face palm emoticon

    Should have researched that first.

    LOLZ,

Out of curiosity... have you ever thought of rebuilding a bolt sled, or improvising parts to make it work again?

    @ little bro.
Well there was only 1 crack in the boltsLed so iepoxied a layer then hotglue then goop then sanded down..... 2 shots and plastic exploded.

Also I had to remake the thing on the plunger rod that screws onto the plunger tube with cardboard plastic and a shitload of hot glue...

    @hamish (forgot username temporarily)
what sized stefans ? Would informers blacks fit?

I think a good way to make it stronger would be maybe layering up aluminium sheeting and epoxy it in between so it's more tougher... then again never owned a long shot I'm just thinking of suggestions that could help you fix it.

Informers foam will be loose in Aluminium, potentially too loose. Alu is really only a good it for white or grey 13mm FBR.

On the topic of the boltsled what the fuck are you putting in your gun? YOU CANT JUST PUT A SHITLOAD OF SPRINGS IN. You must of had some serious springs in there to cause the boltsled to explode.

I've laminated mine with 0.5mm Aluminium and super strong (long cure, 3 day curing time) epoxy, works amazingly. and you shouldn't have to reinforce the back of the plunger tube as the shell of the longshot sits just behind it stopping it from moving backwards...

you've messed up your gun dude.... alot... what the hell have you been doing to it?

    Aj

everyone knows you cant use the two together.. no wonder you broke shit.

And yes. I dont care if the shell looks great, the pieces of the longshot that you broke.. shouldn't break.. therefore. you screwed it up.

if you continue to use this combination you'll break the catch next.

Singled Longshots are horrible weapons, if you want to single a gun single a triple shot as it has a much higher plunger volume and with some internal reinforcement can actually take the increased spring load due to its torsion spring based catch. Longshots excel because of their rate of fire and getting rid of that takes away one of its highest force multipliers when considering the weapons effectiveness.

damn kids messing with complex things not realising what they're doing...

    Aj

I don't wanna start an arguemwnt here or anything but the reason the thing where the tube screws on broke was because I slipped with a hacksaw and put a cut through it= weakened and the the boltsled didn't break with those springs in there for 3 and a half months and that's a good time.... Andthe range was amazing.

So now instead of accusing me of being an idiot for getting awesome range outa my ls... How bout you either help or don't post at all...

NOW the question remains... Will the 13mm foam fit well into my aluminium and increase the range?

Also singled longshots are not shit that's my oppinion you obviously have your own so don't state it like a fact.

    Now everyone back on topic

3 1/2 months is a good time? I've had Longshots in service for over a year now bro... fact is you broke it.

Yes 13mm foam is THE ONLY foam that fits aluminium and yes it will most likely increase ranges.

Weapons, in real life are able to be classified and judged using the following criteria (this is only one system of course)

    Lethality
    Capacity
    Rate of Fire
    Range
    Accuracy

Each of these is referred to in this system as a force multiplier. For example a rifle with a 6 shot clip is 6x more effective, or 6x more of a threat, in combat than a single shot one of the same type.

In nerf, accuracy depends on darts and lethality is not considered thus

    Capacity
    Rate of fire
    Range

Are the important things when considering a blaster.

By singling a longshot you are reducing its rate of fire drastically, also decreasing its capacity by 6x (in the case of a standard clip) all to achieve a range that is easily achievable through a different blaster.

If singled longshots shot further than most other nerf guns their existence would be justified however the ranges they achieve are not up to par with many more simpler blasters and they're harder to prime and when singled an enormous amount of space is wasted in the casing.

Thus I feel it is fair to argue as a fact that singled longshots serve no useful function that cannot be performed better by a simpler, easier to prime, more reliable and compact blaster.

    Aj

    Ok aj here's the thing.......

NOBODY CHOOSES TO HAVE A SINGLED LS OVER ONE WITH A CLIP
the reason that we do it is because we would rather have a gun that shoots slowly than no gun at all.... I never in this thread asked of your oppinion of how you liked the gun in this thread.

Also I don't give the slightest shit about all that REAL gun classification because it's nerf.

Thank you for answering my question on the foam but since that question has been answeredanIs I have got what I want from this thread I think it's time for this thread to be closed so that no more unnecessary posts have to be made.
