    Post  Liam073 Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:46 pm

What type of spring should I put in my longstrike?

I'm not quite sure how big or small the spring needs to be and will i need to reinforce anything?

Please comment and answer these question.

    Thanks

I would not replace the spring of the longstrike because it is a inverse and will probaly crack on impact but if you go ahead then you should reinforce the blot sled and pad the pluger you do know that the longstrike is naturally shit

    never the less good luck

ERTL Rapid Fire Shotgun spring. It's pretty much the only stock spring that fits reverse plungers

Has anyone actually ordered springs for the Longstrike off Black Tactical? I'm quite interested in them too and was hoping for some sort of opinion on them

I just finished modding my long strike right. All I had done to the spring was stretched it a little. I shoot the gun a little and it brakes. I open it up to find the peice at the end of the ramp the plunger goes down Is snaped of and made its way all the way down to the back of the gun. Luckily I fixed it after I flooded it with super glue and tarzans grip. All I'm saying is this post I made is pointless. Don't ever consider buying a stronger better dpring unless you willing to reinforce the whole gun.

Did you pad the end of the plunger tube? Adding padding to the end of your plunger tube dampens that impact (thus saving your plunger) and should always be done after removing the Air Restrictor on any Nerf rifle

Also stretching out the spring isn't really good for the spring itself. It may improve the range for a while but eventually the spring will weaken and the ranges will start to decrease.

This thread isn't really pointless as there will be others who strive to make the Longstrike the best Nerf gun it can be (myself included). Sure it may require a lot more time and effort but the goal is achievable

yeah agreed. As soon as i removed my AR, straight away i padded the end up of the plunger and also changed my catch springs.

I just went down to bunnings and compared sizes of springs to the original and made sure they were the same size but stronger.

Here is a real dumb question, how and with what do you pad the plunger with?
This goes for any Nerf Gun, I keep hearing people do it but I am not sure what they mean.

you should get a few types of foam from clark rubber but if you want to save money recycle like old mouse pads but you don't want something that is too soft.

I use the foam padding from the insert in the lid of my sidchrome socket set.Perfect density and thickness, then use a hole punch to punch pieces out.

It's a few mm thick and does the job well.

Do it properly or you'll be in the wtb thread looking for plunger tubes within a matter of days. Personally wouldn't bother with changing springs in a longstrike. Something will give as per the recon/raider same internals.

I'm thinking that maybe people get /too/ down on reverse plungers - they're weaker and will always have less range but with care you can mod them, yeah?

That's true, but you can mod them. Eventually something will fail though. Hence people going to aluminium plunger tubes and all that stuff.

At the end of the day the longshot is the easiest to mod and most durable of the bigger plunger guns. And they're cheaper than a longstrike if you shop around.

I use the rubber stoppers from bunnings that go on the bottow of chairs to stop them from slipping on floors. All you need to do is just take the plunger into the store and compare which one fits in. I ended up putting about 3 in mine to get maximum cushioning, anymore than that and it won't cock back fully.

BTW that sidchrome idea is awsome!!!

Back on track to the original question, I wouldn't get any other springs for my longstrike other than from black tactical or get a spring from a nerf gun and combine it. Otherwise you'd risk too much in breaking it and would have to get another plunger. All the aluminium plungers on black tactical are sold out.

My longstrike is good enough I think with just the AR removed and extra padding, but I am going to put a longshot spring in it as well as I have upgraded my step sons longshot spring.

Use 3 day araldite/epoxy and glue on a coin (10c) or better, an appropriate sized washer,to the plunger tube (flat end). Both the epoxy and washer/coin, will act as a strong and durable "extra layer".
