New to modding, had a play with a maverick, recon and longshot

    Post  99coconuts on Tue Sep 14, 2010 12:16 pm

Hey guys, just got my first nerf gun last week and been scouring these forums the last couple of days for ideas/what to do. found some great stuff so i thought i'd share what i've done so far

    First up, the maverick:
    removed air restrictors
drilled out barrels for looser fit
    barrel slide out tabs removed
    painted red/black and gold/black

i'm not a fan of the barrel slide out tab removal, i have to press the button to get it back in now and it really doesn't come out that much further. otherwise, this is a wicked gun, removing the ARs worked wonders for it and drilling the barrels even made a bit of a difference (plus it now takes the buzzbee darts)

    next, the recon:
    removed air restrictor
tape around tube for spring compression
shaved down loading mech to try and fit suction darts (mod meant for tagger darts so no suprises this didn't work)
padded inside of tube so it dont break.
    painted black and silver

not happy with the shaved down loading mech, it might be my modded darts, but it seems to jam up if i load too fast now. otherwise, really happy with this one. it does an easy 10m, probably more like 15m with a little angle and looks awesome.

    and the longshot
    removed restrictor
2x bunnings c756 (i think) springs under stock spring
    new o-ring
padded piston so it dont break
    cut off useless extra gun
    painted black/brown/green/silver

havn't tested it yet, looks friggen awesome though. i was getting similar distance to the recon without the spring mod so hopefully it'll get a little better now.

and i even managed to do something with that useless appendage on the LS. suprisingly a decent little unit without the restrictor, easily getting the same distance as the maverick

    cheers!

That looks great, I love the paint job on the recon and longshot, not so much the maverick.

Oh dear me. I wouldn't bring the Recon and Longshot out in the public. You'll cause a disturbance. Nevertheless, great paint job.

Great painting! Hust don't take the recon or longshot out side.

Nice paint work, good orverall effect, but now you only have one gun to take out to wars though, a maverick. And my longshot front gun shoots further than a maverick, but a mav is still better as it has more rounds.

So welcome aboard the Oznerf Express, LOL

I'd say you're the best geared new player I've ever seen. You've posted only once and yet you're so far ahead of many of us when we were starting out. I remember my first gun, a stock firefly and I was giggly with excitement already. It's now collecting dust.

My AR removed Firefly is like... way better then my AR removed clear mav. I find them awesome. if only it was titchy and not primary sized.

to tell you the truth, i never even thought about it like that. i just painted them up how i wanted them, didn't consider having outdoor fun and games and the effect it might have on passers by really

i guess i could slap some funky bright colours on the recon if it came down to the crunch, but it'd be a shame to ditch the camo on my LS, it looks too good (though i might start getting a little less precious about it when its scratched up from use). but overall, i think the maverick is the most versatile gun i've got. decent range/accuracy, fast firing, takes any ammo, is reasonably fast to reload (i think i've even seen people make removable barrels for the things??) and they're only $15 if you ship around!

i know i went a bit nuts, but time off work and not enough money to play with my big toys will do that. wouldn't mind a stampede aswell, but i'll see how i go there.... be kinda hard to resist doing something realistic on that too tho

Awesome paintjobs, but dude, there were 8 full stops in that whole post. Fix your grammar or you could get banned by the admins.

Just to let you know for the maverick, you might have done the tab removal wrong or lost the spring in the mechanism. I did and a cut down pen spring will work fine.

The longshot, three springs will undoubtedly break after a while, mine did with one 'Bunnings' spring. Also you really need to pad the thing up with whatever fits, try a longshot front gun integration too next time
