Just a small update, I did a few calculations and worked out this thing, with my 2.3aH 12v Battery shoots 4.5 Darts per sec!
    S yeah...

    BAM!

If I was you Brad, I would change from Tamyia's to Deans, Also upgrade to a thicker wire, It will get more voltage through.

I didn't use Tamyita's Paint, I used Vinyl Dye Got it from super cheap auto for $18 for 2 cans. Because they are Satin Colours, they are not shiny and are Flat.
They even dry in wet weather!
    Here's a pic of them:

    Stampede eh? - Page 2 Img2690v

Also, there isn't much point in using thicker wire, because the stampede internals don't have very thick wire, so I used the same gauge. Anyway, you cant let more Voltage though, I believe that says the same, you let more current through. The current is variable (by which it can change) and the voltage is invariable.

If I'm wrong, correct me, but I don't think I am

Very nice mod, how much does handling improve by removing the diagonal bit from the bottom of the handle to the battery compartment? I've found that it gets in the way a bit, but haven't found the time to remove it yet.

On the electrical issue, you're indeed correct that there isn't much point to using thicker wire, but the motor will indeed see a higher voltage. Let's take an example, since I measured the current draw on a stock Stampede yesterday.

Under load, the nominal 9V of a fresh set of cheapo D cells dropped to ~7V, and the current draw hovered around 2A, so V=IR gives a system resistance of ~3.5 ohms.

Let's assume that the wire resistance was 0.5 ohms, while the motor accounted for the other 3 (in actual fact the wires would account for a lot less than that). Therefore, out of that 7V there will be a 6 volt drop across the motor and 1V across the wires. Side note: P=I^2R says that if the wires did actually account for 0.5 ohms of that resistance it'd be dissipating 2W as heat...

If we use thicker wire and halve the resistance, the system resistance would be down to 3.25 ohms. Of that 7V, we'd now get ~0.54V across the wires and 6.46V across the motor. The voltage across the battery will stay the same, but the motor will see a higher voltage. Note that the lower resistance will also increase the current drawn to around 2.15A.

Practically though, given that wire resistance is much lower, if you used a thicker wire the corresponding increase in voltage will be much lower, so I expect that the effect will be minimal.

Note that this is a simplified explanation since I don't want to clutter it too much.

Anyhow, back on track, great mod for the Stampede. Any plans to do another and dual wield?

He did buy four stampedes... QUADRUPLE WIELD ANYONE?

I showed this to a couple of mates and they went off! If you try hard enough it kinda looks like an uzi. That's what they said anyway. I liked the idea you had for the ice cream lid. That was some good thinking

Well, I know chad did manage to get some yellow dye, but he said its pretty hard to find and orange, near impossible.

It depends on where you look I suppose.

Once you under coat with a plastic/vinyl paint you can paint over this with an other paint with good results.
At least thats my experience so far.

Don't forget cinlia01 over here, I go to saints aswell. Nice mod brad, just an idea for the future, how about making a slide in battery casing on the lower part of the rear of the blaster for easy acsess and stuff.

And Aj if u could get a saints nerf legue the junior school main building would be so sick.

I know this is an old thread but it's still quite awesome, so I'm going to respond anyway.

Personally I too don't think the wire size increase is worth doing as the ROF won't really increase by that much. The internals certainly don't warrant spending the time needed to replace the cabling for such a small efficiency gain. there are much better area's to gain efficiency and performance from that would need to be looked at first.

I do agree that mounting the battery on the gun would look much better, but it would also decrease the perceived "Recoil", as you would be adding mass to the gun to act as a damper.

I'm looking forward to finishing my Stampede mods so that I too can share. Though I do like the rifle look even though I really do want a fully auto pistol.

Just brought another stampede just so I can do a SMG style mod, just like this! awesome inspiration - THANKS!

Already added my 14.8v Lipo, removed AR, all safety's (left main on / off switch), re sealed plunger. Waiting for my OMW springs and kits to arrive. Already put 2 clips through it in its current form to test, NO over runs at all - WOW. Unlike my other one. Wonder what i did wrong with that one. Time to pull it apart and find out.

    Anyway, thanks for the inspiration.

Cut down most of the external shell and barrel section. I am leaving a bit more intact around the rear of the handle and a tad bit more of the muzzle section and the top handle (need some where for the bandolier strap!). Going to try to get the stock battery end plate to go back on the shortened butt stock if possible - that might take some thinking!

thanks, i have seen that one. I like it, but dont want the rear stock, wanting it a bit shorter then that. Just about to finish chopping the front end off and then work on piecing it back together with the extra bits and hide some of the cuts and holes.

    Cheers.

    Can do.

Any modification you do will shorten the life of the blaster. Whether it's by a meaningful amount is up to the modification in question.

I've got a few running at 16v and haven't seen any motor problems yet.

Here is a update for my minimized stampede. Its not quiet the same level as the OP however its still smaller then stock and powerful to boot.

    14.8v 2200mAh Lipo
    11-12kilo "Serv" Spring
    AR Removed
    Safetys Removed
Blue LEDs in Gun End and Clear Chamber (Wired to safety)
Shell Minimized as you can see
Added 2x D brackets for Gun Strap to attatch
    Red Dot Aimpoint
    Laser (pressure switch activated)
    LED Tac' Torch
    Rayven Muzzle

    Stampede eh? - Page 2 2012-05-27150457

This thing is a beast when used with "heavies" or Hot glue tipped filled steamlines. Fires accurately, despite the short barrel, and fast. Empties a 18 clip in about 5 - 6 seconds but is best used in small bursts.

Thinking about making a smaller version with slightly less power like the OP or the others floating around but this suites my indoors CQC battles and even out door battles no worries.
