Red Dot Sight Empty Red Dot Sight

Post  Synergie Sat Mar 19, 2011 7:06 am

I know this has been covered before, I distinctly remember Akimbo Assasin posting about it but when I go to find his past posts, nothing is displayed :S. Therefore, I need some suggestions on red dot sights/scopes that dont cost the earth, I saw an old thread on Overclockers Australia where they mounted their RDS to their Stampede with no modding ie. 4 screws mounted horizontally secure themselves around the Nerf tactical rail and hence doesn't require gluing.

PS: Already tried searching and browsing through the first couple pages of the General Nerf subforum, so please admins, don't delete this on sight.

Akimbo Assassin quickly PM'd me advising me to checkout Deal Extreme.

EDIT: I'm torn between these three:a reflex sight or one of these two more traditional red dot scopes: this or this

Tell us which one is the best when you get them, I have been pondering getting a decent quality one for a while.

Well with the reflex sight, there is a review saying that it works with nerf guns..

    Tacticool!
    Posted by leonardlow on 10/20/2010
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
    Price:
    Ease of Use:
    Build Quality:
    Usefulness:
    Overall Rating:
    Pros:
The appearance of these is pro. Apart from the micro switch on the back it is difficult to tell these apart from a $400 professional red dot scope. The rail mount is absolutely rock solid - once mounted, this will not move, break off, or come undone.
    Cons:
I ordered three of these. Two of the lasers worked perfectly: nice bright red dots. One was dismally weak and the red dot could hardly be seen in a darkened room, let alone in daylight. Speaking of which, even the bright ones I got aren't much use in bright sunlight; but for the purpose of making your weapon of choice look tacticool, these do the job.
    Other Thoughts:
I use these on Nerf guns for sighting my gun-mounted camera during Humans vs Zombies games. It works okay, and it looks uber.
    Bottomline:
Get one to look cool or get basic functionality. But if your (real) life depends on accurate targeting in all lighting conditions, value yourself and invest in a *real* tactical sight, k?

I've just received three traditional red dot scopes from Deal Extreme a couple of days ago. One was the BSA 1 x 30 that Synergie has linked to, and the others are http://www.dealextreme.com/p/1-30-reflex-laser-sight-rifle-scope-red-green-laser-configurable-12171 and http://www.dealextreme.com/p/1-30-reflex-laser-sight-rifle-scope-4-configurable-crosshairs-12173

To be honest, they're all pretty good sights, but my preference is the last one, with the 4 different reticles. It was also the easiest to mount - I lined one locking pin up with the recessed groove on the tac rail, and had to dremel out a little bit of the top of the tac rail for the second pin. I can put pics up later in the week when I get a day off.

The BSA mounts pretty easily as well. All that was needed was to put a spacer on the weaver attachment so it would clamp tightly (when it's fully closed, it's still a little wide to stay securely on the rail). It lines up perfectly with 2 x recessed parts of the tac rail.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Practical-and-inexpensive-Red-Dot-Sight-/170616659765?pt=AU_Hunting&hash=item27b98b9f35 - I got one of these ones. I got it for $10 each. The red dot quality is probably as good as the Nerf Tact rail. The accuracy is superb when I placed it on my brass breeched longshot. 100% accuracy. Excluding all the darts that veered off to the side.

Although in the sunlight it's very faint. However, for $10, you can't complain. Images taken from the PICTURES ONLY thread.

    Down the barrel :D.

    Red Dot Sight IMG_2727
    - If you line that red dot with the recon blade sight, your shots will go EXACTLY where it's pointing too. That's if you good darts though :P.

The awesome thing about it is that you don't have to center the red dot when you're aiming because it's always centered. I had to dremel the tactical rail for it to fit. I accidentally dremelled to much so I used epoxy putty to fill the gaps and now it works perfect :D.

That is the sort of reflex sight I'm looking for, however the brightness concerns me and prompts me to wonder if a red dot scope may be less susceptible to sunlight

I think a red dot scope would be affected as well..
Also, if you really want to use a sight with streamlines, you might wanna do the hotglue mod, so they're more stable in flight.

Your best bet is not to even bother with these sights. If you have a real gun, yes. But for nerf, useless.

I Do agree, there are some occations, ie. Lil' Bro's where the red dot lines up niceley, but in my experiences, they just dont work that well.... Unless your using a super-duper-overpowerd gun

Actually. It works very well Roger :). With good darts I am able to hit human sized targets from up to the max range of my Longshot.

But, like TheBradl3's says, it's only useful for super-duper-OP Nerf blasters.

I don't bother with them either, if I REALLY need to aim at someone, if I'm shooting from a distance I can just look down the tactical rail or whatever.

A red dot scope works well in sunlight. I got an NcSTAR 1x45 for my Longshot. It's nice and wide so you have a wide field of view through the sight. It fit fine on a Nerf rail if you put a piece of foam (I used FBR) in between the sight mount and the rail to give it support. I got it online for about $30.

LOL you do realise the price is still being bidded right? So it will keep going up. Honestly all the prices for Nerf red dot sight on EBay are ripoff.

I had that sight too. It was cool for the $13 I payed for it but it's definitely not worth more than that. Just about any sight designed for weaver rails can fit on Nerf rails.

Just a tip on red-dot sights that I've learnt the hard way. Make sure you turn them off when not in use - otherwise the dot goes very blurry!! I had this happen on my first 3 sights all at the same time, which wasn't the cheapest way to discover this issue!! lol
