Post  phuonguyen Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:21 am

Anyway, I've had alot of questions regarding my blasters, how I mod and whether I could teach people how to mod. And I have toyed with the idea of holding a modding session that take things one step further.

Although modifications is very blaster specific, there are several factors that people encounter whilst modding their brand spanking (to them) new blasters.

Most often, people are referring and basing their mods off write ups, but what I'm suggesting is similar to a modding session, except instead of a bring your own and mod in a group setting, we take a different approach.

I'll run through basic tools, materials and basic knowledge that most modifiers should know when undertaking a mod; and then go into blaster specific modifications and different blaster types.
This is a session where people come and try to get some hands on advice and direct help with blaster that they have problems with.

Obviously this is for QLD people, their thoughts and ideas will influence me more than someone interstate saying that it is a bad idea. So post your thoughts about this thingy...

Could you somehow elect senior Oznerf modders from the different states to hold the modding sessions so that newer modders who didn't live in QLD could still learn to mod?

Dude, that sounds pretty boss/awesome :). I would go if my parents let me.
So would you like go through some basic mods to blaster such as a NF? So at the place (wherever that is) you show a stock nite finder, a write up about modding it (explain steps into detail), then the finished product? (actually physical one not just a picture). Sounds great. If this happens, I'll drag my mate along too, so he can stop asking me questions (assuming my parents let me go.) XD. Nice idea.

And in regards to the "Parents not letting me go to "X" year old persons place, Maybe a form or something saying what its about, cost (if any) where, when and a permission slip or something like that. Just an idea

So far with this interest, it looks like I'll probably end up holding it sometime mid year or mid semester. To give myself some kind of prep period - to gather stock blasters to mod on the day. I figured it would be good if everyone went home with a blaster or two, but that would involve a fee to cover costs, which is something that I would rather avoid.

For people/parents who are concerned, I hold a current Blue Card which I require for both refereeing and my volunteer work for ERC.

@Reconzor Yes something like that, though I think maybe into the idea of modding first then actual modding, so you guys understand what each mod does, how it effects other mods etc.
Though it would be good if you guys also brought your blasters to this event so there is some variety in the blasters. Also there will be probably 1-2 hours of modding when I'll go around and help people mod their blasters better/whatever.

I think Informer and lilbro will be in on this too as they probably have their blasters to mod and will want to have a chat while doing so.

@ElementGuy I'm only toying with this idea because of the number of questions that I've had regarding my mods. Whether other members of the forum in other states decide to hold a similar session, then that's up to them to organise and hold. I'm only the administrator, I have no power to sway their decisions, apart from those which are posted online.

Dude you live in Adelaide.. we've been having mod parties since forever (at least the last 3-4 years I've been into nerf)

Sometimes they are advertised on the forums, I can think of 2 recently, both of which where held at Lachlan's house to great success.

Sometimes they are not, and you need to be part of the war attending community to know about, if you cant make it to a war to find out when such events are happening, or to get to know the guys that organise it so you'll be invited, then you probably will never hear about them, but if you cant make it to wars why do you need modded guns?

    BOOM - poll added

What day is best for you - multi choice tick whatever days are cool with you.

if shit happens and those days change - you can change your poll.

Please be honest and not tick all of the days if it is not good for you.

    Brisbane/GC/SC voters only please.

I'm using this poll to set the date.

I haven't voted, but if it is on Saturday and wars are on Sunday then we could mod and shoot the same weekend, no?

Are you doing the workshop for free? Your time is money, your expertise even more so. If a kid spent 5 bucks to learn a few modding tips and tricks from you, he/she could save him/herself a few dollars not destroying their own toys or earning the wrath of their parents

And then you open yourself up to major public liability issues - especially with the big warning on blasters to not be modified. Unless of course it was a donation....

I suppose I could charge a fee at the door... but I feel that that's a bit stingy/greedy of me, if everyone walks away with nothing. I'm not too sure right now of the deal, but rest assured I will hold one sometime this quarter.

The warning regarding modifications is a liability contract that protects the manufacturer from any legal claims regarding potential danger from the blasters. It is the same thing for electronic goods and their warranty. If someone opens the blaster and then is injured, Hasbro is no longer liable for damage claims.

Yep, I fully understand the purpose of the manufacturer's warning. I was just using it to highlight the implications surrounding payment for modifying a blaster, and the legal liabilities which could ensue. This differs from being contracted to perform a service, in which case a document generally protects the person/s who undertake the task. In this current era, you can never take anything for granted. I'm sure other business owners on the forum can attest to the rising costs in public liability insurance. At the end of the day, no one wants to get stung by helping someone out, but you only need to read a newspaper to see it happens all the time. Hence my suggestion of a "donation".

I posted this ages ago, when I hadn't signed up to my diving course. Given that there are somethings that I would prefer to finish before I plan this event out.

I would be looking at approximately after my football season finishes, that is in September ish.

It would be at my place I'm assuming, though a full day of modding doesn't sound too bad in a hall.

Think of it as an american "1 hour war". If anyone knows what that is...
