    HyperMaxx 1500 Empty HyperMaxx 1500

Post  makeitgo Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:30 am

This is the final product of my previous Hyperfire prototype.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3904e
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3900bg

    Okay Let's begin.
I found both of these at a thrift store.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3864xr

The red Hyperfire was in really good shape and 'feels' like it has a better build then the green Hyperfire. The SuperMaxx 1500 on the other hand was in pretty bad shape.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3865i

Everything inside was broken. The pump head was completely shattered, all the vinyl tubing connections were severed and the tank had a leak... I didn't feel guilty gutting this thing at all.

I began by cutting up the shells. I actually did a Photoshop mock up so I had already decided how I wanted this to look.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3867qc
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3874j
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3872wy

Putting all the pieces together, it started to take shape.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3877lk
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3878t

I used the rest of the SM1500 to make the pump shell.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3888
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3889d

I decided to put in a rear loading hole. It's only 1 so reloading is a bit of a pain. I also used a piece of 1" PVC to create a sort of guide and to cover up the huge hole.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3879r
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3881zc

Of course, if there's a rear loading hole that means the turret needs some work.
Once the turret was taken apart, I Dremeled out the holes to be wide enough to accept darts.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3882k

Then I cut 10 1" pieces of 3/4" aluminum to use as couplers for the PETG barrels.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3883q

I used a slice from the stock Hyperfire turret to use as a spacer.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3885d

Using e-tape and goop, I put the turret together.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3886ta
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3887jk

I used Fishin' Glue to fix the small leak in the tank and relocated the input to the side. I used 5/16" vinyl tubing to connect it to the pump. I had to use the pump from a Hornet I picked up at the thrift store.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3893h
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3898x

The 3/4" CPVC is there for structure because the shell for the pump was really flimsy once I cut it up (oops).
Timing the trigger with the tank and the rotation mech proved (and still does) to be the most frustrating part of this mod. I know I'm not getting the ranges I should. You can also see that I've cut up the rest of the Hyperfire turret to help with stabalizing the turret in the shell.

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3895n
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3897rj

    ...And now, the drama...

    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3909x
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3908yj
    HyperMaxx 1500 Img3911fo

A thrift store is a Op shop here in Australia. These stores are run by charity groups, people donate their unwanted stuff and these charities sell this stuff.

I'm only getting low 70's flat right now. Kind of disappointing. I'm sure it has to do with the seal. I've tweaked the timing and it's near perfect so the only thing I can think of is the turret to tank seal. I can't get any 'tighter' or the auto mech won't rotate.

redcricket077 wrote:Also realised you got a Hornet at the thrift store. That must be quite an amazing thrift store

My thifting usually consists of me visiting EVERY thrift store in my area. In 2 hours I can hit about 6 of them. Luckily for me, Nerfing isn't big at all in my city. There are only 3 of us that I know of. So when kids get bored of them or parents get fed up with them, they wind up at thrift stores. Yay for me. The other 2 Nerfers don't have cars.... They get mad at me for taking all the good stuff.

I'm finally done! I got my 80' flat (80' - 90'). I have the timing down as good as I can get it. 7/8th circle before air release. The key was to set the tank just left of center so the air releases just before the barrels reach full center alignment. It's literally 2mm just left of center. I also added a piece of CPVC to the end of the tank to provide better coverage over the rear loading hole. Along with the craft foam, it makes a great seal.

The OVP kicks in at 4-5 pumps. I decided not to plug it since the tank had a crack in it already. I fixed it with angler's glue and epoxy but I didn't want to take the chance and blow it.

After all the work and frustration, this turned out to be very worth while.

I also cleaned up the rear loading slot.

That's totally unacceptable. One your speaking in CAPS, not ONCE but TWICE. We don't need this kind of behaviour in these forums.

You obviously, like the others say before me, have NO IDEA where he comes from. He's from CANADA. This is an Australian community, yes, however people interstate can join.

Your display of racism is NOT WANTED here. If you come on and you can't post, you'll know why...

Sure we think Americans are such and such, as I know Americans say such and such about Australians, but telling them to get out? That's not cool at all.

We're a multi-cultural site, and won't stand for any racism.

Also, MIG is Canadian, not American. On that topic, we've had some very useful mod's/trading etc from numerous Overseas member's.

Failure to have your profile updated correctly, and inappropriate posting has earned you a break. See you in a week jedijacko.

Okay, let's say he was 'messing around' or 'making a joke'. Firstly, it's a bad joke, it wasn't funny and it is basically flaming.

If I told anyone to <Censored> off, then said a few minutes later "oh I'm just kidding", the point is I still said it. Damage has been done. Sometimes you gotta make examples out of some dumb kids, that I've learnt in teaching.

BUT YEAH LOL WHAT A DUMBASS HE'S FROM CANADA.

To that person who said "it doesn't matter"... so you wouldn't be offended if I called you a Kiwi?

Wow. That came out of nowhere.

Thanks for coming to my defense guys.

@Jedi If you're reading this, here's some food for thought, Nerf is owned by Hasbro which is an American company in which all parts are currently made in China. If you want to get technical, there is no "Oz Nerf".

Forums such as this and many others were created to share and discover interesting ideas, new and old. Many members here are part of various forums in many different continents and countries. Each and every forum has benefitted greatly from exposure to each and one and other.

You'll soon discover that references to specific modders about specific techniques and mods are made to people whom may or may not reside in Australia. To exclude all but Australians in this forum would also, by defacto, exclude all external ideas.

But on topic and to your original question, I get my PETG from Pearson who distributes it through ForsakenAngel's website .... here in Canada. ... And yes, he does ship to Australia.
