Yes guys, title says it, you might be surprised and I think I'm the only one without a dremel of some kind on this forums... my dad doesn't think he will use it so I want to convince him

EDIT: My dad normally does gardening, and if there is something to be fixed he fixes it, like electronics and stuff.

it cuts, it grinds, it sands, it brushes, it de-burrs, it engraves, it rotates anything you put in it

If he's thinking that it's not worth it paying like 50+ for something he will never use, ask for a XU1 rotary tool for yourself, it cost like $20 from Bunnings, well it's cheap and gets the work done and 20 seems like a better number to tell your parents than 50, so it could be a chance they'll buy it for you.

Honestly, if that XU1 rotary tool is intended to go through metal, you're going to have more than a bit of trouble.
A 12V adapter and the current feed through thin wires to the tool will mean that there's not a lot of power feeding that device.

Meaning, there's going to be very limited grunt to do such tasks, when you want the cutting disc to be blazingly fast with enough torque.

Any XU1 users, feel free to post your experiences.

Didn't we already establish that the Ozito model remains to be the best value for money?

Anyways, I shouldn't admit to this but I've used rotary cutting tools for drilling. It's a temporary solution when you don't have a drill at hand.

It seems you need to demonstrate that a rotary cutting tool will not only allow you to conduct more eleborate mods, but is also handy to do the random jobs at home should they pop up. My bro-in-law once needed to drill a large hole in the back of his car for trailer light cabling just to give an example.

Tell your Dad that rotary tools can sharpen mower blades, pruning shears, axes etc etc.

It might not be the quickest way of performing these tasks, but it is possible.

    Cheers,

Thanks guys for the feedback! So Clunk or anyone would an Ozito one be sufficent for what you said before? Or would I have to go to that extra level for the $99 dremel.

My $40 Ozito has served me well for quite some time. It came with tonnes of bits, a stand and a flexi shaft. I've had no problems cutting alu tube and it works great for cutting plastic. Sure the Dremel brand is better but if you don't have the cash an Ozito will do the job.

A Dremel can be used for nearly everything to do with Nerfing/Manual Arts, you just need the skill and patience to use it.
