Cheap runout spring Empty Cheap runout spring

Post  oznerfnerd Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:29 am

    Hi All,

These are a discontinued spring that we had made for the Longshot kit, but didn't suit our purpose:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/270871747447?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

They were designed with too few coils, which makes them quite stiff but prone to buckling if left cocked for too long.

At 2 bucks each they are under our cost, I just want to get them out of my cupboard.

Please don't ask a bunch of questions about them, just read the description (please).

They may suit the budget concious, or someone making a homemade or something.

I haven't tried, but they may fit applications like the triple shot, PAS, etc, where a LS spring can be used.

Please bear in mind they are seconds items, and priced accordingly.

    Cheers,
    Bacara

General question for everyone: Has anyone tested these springs in Triple-Shot or RFSG applications yet?
I'd assume it would work well, seeing as it's the same size (roughly) as other springs on the market, but just in need/want of some clarification.

I use it in my RSCB Triple Shot. It gets around 40metre flat ranges and up to 60m with it angled.

I get similar ranges with an SS spring and SS-style internals in my octo, so I might invest in a few of these (come on, $1 per spring!), saving the 13kg springs for future longshot builds.

Strange that you get the same ranges when an RSCB triple shot has heaps more dead space. I'm assuming you're using PETG?

Yeah, but the turret rotates rather freely, so I know for a fact that the seal could be better (haven't even had to glue the slip clutch yet!).
But it may also be the old case of foam shrinking in the colder dryer weather down south.
However, as for ranges, the last time I gave it a proper test, it was hitting 45m flat relatively consistently. As for the dead space in the RSCB, it shouldn't make that much difference should it, well except for maybe the last 2 shots or so.

How many clicks are you able to get this spring to compress to ? The 13kg SS spring tops out at 7 in my Handcannon and Quadshot.

Compresses up to 8. You need to slightly dremel the sliding slot of the shell and you should get the 8th click. Like just 1mm is all you need. I'm pretty sure anyway.

The Handcannon can get 8 clicks stock, its definitely being limited by the springs at the moment.

My Quad is getting 8 clicks with a spring that has more coils and thicker wire so I doubt its a spring issue

I feel that 9 clicks will make a huge difference compared to 7, its like an extra inch(?) of draw, should be pretty beneficial to get that extra volume for RSCB or inline clipped setups.

    Which spring are you using?

This is the one that I can only get to 7 clicks:

11 is possible BUT the amount of work required is getting a touch towards silly, even for me, and the pluger rod would have to protrude the rear of the shell.
I strictly speaking have 9 but I limited the forward travel of the plunger in order to try and prevent blowing the end out of the tube

The spring I am using is a 21kg 12 coil 2.8mm(ish) wire, free length 120mm

The main issue with the 27mm spring is it sits on the inner circle of the plunger rod, a spring which fits OVER this circle and rests immediately behind the plunger head would get 8-9 clicks. This inner circle can probably be dremeled off, I will investigate soon. (this has probably been done before)

It should be able to be taken off (the inner circle) I don't have either of my TS bassed blasters apart atm so I can say for sure.

I dremeled the small ring down a bit so now my 13kg spring sits flush with the black stock LS spring. Handcannon still only got 7 clicks, I dremeled out the rear of the slot and now its getting 8. Am I going insane or does the stock HC get 8 clicks?

Yep you're definitely going insane. Just kidding lol.

Yes I can confirm that the stock HC can get 8 clicks. The stock Triple Shot can only get 7 (some people have reported to me that they have gotten 8 with a stock Triple Shot though).

I can explain why the TS can only get 7.

You can get the quadshot to get 8 clicks if you cut this bit of the priming bar.

    Cheap runout spring Wheretocut

This is the stock priming bar when primed all the way backwards. The rotation bar is in the way.

    Cheap runout spring IMG_3099

You can see that the priming bar is on the 7.8clicks. Sorry the photo is abit bad quality. Count each rectangular section = one click

    Cheap runout spring IMG_3096

After you've cut it down to size like this picture below (the priming bar modified)

    Cheap runout spring IMG_3101

Once it's primed all the way back the newly modified bar doesn't get in the way way of the rotation bar. So in this picture below, you'll get the 8th click.

    Cheap runout spring IMG_3102

    Hope that helps lol.

Thanks LB, makes perfect sense. Still don't know why my handcannon required the tracks to be trimmed to get to 8 clicks though when it was getting 8 stock.

EDIT: Sorry to OP for the thread hijack, I bought 6 of the springs to make up for it.

Ok after you've clicked the "commit to buy" button, you'll be redirected to the checkout. In the checkout, there's a tiny tab that says "request total" (be warned, it's not as obvious as one would initially hope). When you click it, it will let you send a message to ONN requesting combined shipping. Wait a little while for him to reply to you giving you the new postage amount and payment total. Then it should be all hunky dory from then on (pay for your springs and combined postage).
    Hope that helped!

    Yep,

That pretty much sums it up, and yes, it could be simpler.

We don't profiteer on postage, so I'm happy to jam as much as I can into that satchel for you.

Please read the description for maximum amounts, and if you want to go over that please send me a message before you buy.

Any luck with this LB? My HC won't catch properly on the 9th click, it slips back to the 8th. This was with the 13kg SS spring alone. The catch works perfectly up to 8 clicks with SS spring + stock HC spring so I don't think its an issue of catch strength, I've done the badwrench spring relocation and cut a slot in the catch so the spring doesnt slip off, I'm guessing the priming bar or plunger rod is twisting or bending so the catch can't get proper purchase ?
