It's essentially an 18 clip, that chunky bit is where the batteries are housed to power the LEDs in the clip.

Are there any rayvens in Australia yet?

Do you not know circuitry? You CAN'T it would burn the LED's out and they are only rated for 3v each,
For example, Grab a 9v battery and put a 3v LED on it, what do you get? A hot battery and a exploded LED.

Actually no i dont know circuitry. I tried it once and i wasnt very good at it

You could use a 9v with a aprropriate resistor to increase the brightness and reduce weigh as well its a good idea really.

It was just a joke. Like i said im not very good at wiring and circuitry and stuff like that and I'm not gonna try.

wouldnt you have to get a LED that can withstand more electricity
cause if you just added a 9v battery and a resistor arent you going to end up with the same output as the normal AA batteries?

If depends on the resister's setting.

yeah but the right resistor will end up allowing the same number of volts that the normal AAs will output

I'm not taking Nerf seriously. The fact that Luke is shouting at someone clearly shows that he's the one who's taking Nerf too seriously. I'm just merely saying that would you like someone shouting something in your face. My post isn't even Nerf related, it's just demonstrating that it's not nice to shout at others at their mistakes =).

Also my post was trying to serve as a Warning for him not to break his Rayven, But I guess next time I will let n00bs go ahead and break their things.

Also, from even my weak electro knowledge, I'm pretty sure you could amp up an existing system by wiring in more LEDs in parallel.

I have no electro knowledge whatsoever. All I know is that the red wire goes on the flat bit of the stampede battery shell and the black wire goes on the springy bit.

That's pretty much the case. By applying a resistor , all you would be doing is reducing the current, hence the voltage, which in turn (if you apply enough resistance to save your LEDS) would produce little to no advantage over simply using AA's. Also, 9 volts have more voltage, but a lower mAh rating than AA's, therefore the battery would have to be replaced more often, basically meaning that it would be worse than stock (not to mention more expensive).

I do understand that it was only a joke though, and not exactly a serious idea.

Yeah, I've got a little workshop set up in the garage with a soldering iron, multimeter, oscilloscope etc. It's lot of fun to pull stuff apart and fix it, as well as build stuff from kits.

my dads an engineer so weve basically got warhouses full of anything i need for general nerf purposes and electronics. ive been begging him to teach me how to program so i can make a sentry nerf vulcan but hes just really busy

Well, I do know circuitry, and would say that you may or may not be correct.

Have you tested your assumption?

Basically all modding of electric nerf blasters involves exceeding the recommended rating (by heaps in some cases).

Personally, I'd just throw the battery in and see what happens.

If it burnt an LED, I'd just nick down to Jaycar or whatever and grab a handful of higher rated ones for however many cents they cost.

We've heard that Jacob wants brighter LED's, run from a 9v battery.

Are there 9v LED's available in the same size/shape?

I'm personally not into LED's, but now that the question has been partially answered, let's finish it with a clear answer for him.

I have not found any 9v LED's anywhere, I tested it with Blue UV LEDS (3V) on a 9 volt battery, It burn't them, then I tried 4.5volts (Same type of LED'S) it did very well, MAX I would go would be 6v but then it still gets warm, best performance overall was 4.5v.

Lucky! I wish my dad knew that sort of stuff. But on the other hand, my dad has managed branches of Reece, TradeLink and another store, all of which sell plumbing parts. That's handy. But I do wish I could learn to program from my dad.

Anyway, back on topic, I do agree that LEDs can be run slightly over the recommended voltage, although I'm simply wondering why you would do it. Just buy an LED that is rated for higher voltage and/or brighter output. That's just my opinion.
