So as you all know the latest thing to be doing thanks to Redwolfs resourcefulness and FaytZero's main inspiration idea (with help from others obviously) is to take a Mortar Pistol and a Longstrike, throw them in a room together along with some tools and this is what happens when the Gremlins have a Baby!
After you gut half the back end of the LStrike, take the tank from the MPistol and with some brass, some dremeling, a bit of luck and other random goodies create a CLIP FED, BRASS BREACHED, AIR TANK Powered beast!
So after a 1st attempt with NightCrawler's a few weeks back I got the chance to do one of mine. I am out longer sections of brass so this is the version 2.0 for me with a split barrel design. Here are some pics of the build and results.
A few key notes before you begin looking:
The Barrel / Breach / Air Tank can all be taken out rather easily, yet its all secured using a PVC Collar system and the internals of the LStrike. Nothing is glued in permenately that needs to be taken out for repairs, mods, replacement etc.
I was happy to use the original Priming Handle for the movement, however the next version will use a MUCH small cut in the shell and use a M8 Bolt probably so you will have about a 10mm slot for the movement of the Breach. What you see here is the 1st Version, and a after thought to use the handle mentioned.
Also worth noting is that I am working on using the original bolt sled movement to activate the brass breach slide, its taking some working through but I have nutted out 95% of it. Pending more materials, I can complete a prototype but it should be pretty simple in the overall scheme of things. Its rather exciting!
ALSO, WHITEOUT LONGSTRIKE FOR THE WIN! Saves Painting
As Mentioned above, this is due for a change in the next version. I will use a small M8 Bolt to connect the priming handle to breach slide. But this one is STRONG, STURDY and does the job!!!
What you see here is the stock brass barrel coming out of the Shell, it couples to the brass that is nested inside the Extension Muzzle and continues the air tight barrel. Internally of both Main Shell and Muzzle its all supported and secured so no movement occurs yet its also removable with force IF required for future work.
And for those who are asking how well the tank fits in the shell, here is the worste gap in the entire build
Compared to Version 1.0, the newer one is a far better result don't you think? - Bad Pic but you see how much worse the fit and my work is
Here is a standard Nerf Accessory sliding all the way back on the rail, no worries at all
So now you see, a CLIP FED, Brass Breached, Airtank powered blaster. its BLOODY accurate, Range of approx 120ft (will get more with more weight in the dart) and I need a bigger area to test after that!
