Nerf Elite and how we're going to be screwed over

Hello OzNerf. I used to post a bit, but sort of went off Nerf in general and got out of the fandom a bit.

Anyway, I was on facebook tonight - Look what comes up in my news feed.

We know that a few eagle-eyed members of Nerf Nation have spotted two different versions of the N-Strike Elite Retaliator blaster video we posted online earlier this week, and wanted to clear up any confusion. We pride ourselves on offering high-performance blasters that adhere to our own strict safety standards, as well as standards set by each country where Nerf blasters are available. It is for this reason that, while most of our fans internationally will be seeing up to 75 foot distances using the N-Strike Elite blasters, members of Nerf Nation located in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, China and the Philippines will see a distance of up to 15 meters. N-Strike Elite blasters around the world will all feature Elite blaster styling, design and darts. We can’t wait to share more information with you, Nation, and may have some more details up our sleeves for next week. Stay tuned.

How do you feel about this? I'm sure there will be simple mods around it and that it was clearly done for legal reasons, but to be rather honest I am annoyed by this.

Pisses me off so bad, why not change the dart or something to hinder it by 20 feet? that really disappoints me.

haha... I've had this conversation so many times on FB in the last 12 hours that my response is nearly ingrained in to my laptop screen...

Firstly, I'd guess it would only be a bigger AR or a weaker spring to inhibit the ranges, as I'm sure Hasbro aren't going to go to the hassle of having 2 different moulds designed for internals. And, if this is the case, AR removal/spring replacement is pretty much what we do...

Secondly, well, they're only RP's, so what's the big deal really? I'm sure I won't be crying if I can't get 75 feet heavily angled out of them... I'll just brass/spring a NF for $12 and be happy with that.

Finally, doing a bulk import from a US retailer isn't exactly difficult, if you "must have" the more-powerful edition.


Anyway, I thought most of us would be used to how our laws screw us over most days.

Presumably just a more aggressive AR or lighter spring. Both things which are easily rectified.

What I’m really interested in are the darts.

Me thinks that I'm going to buy one from local stores, then import one from a faraway land.

I agree with both clunk and Jeo. It's most likely that the two things they do to reduce the range of the guns will be a more effective AR and or a weaker spring. In either case, dealing with those two things is something fair amount of us on this forum are professionals at.

Regardless, it's preferable that they mess around with the guns as opposed to the darts, as it'll be much hard to 'fix' those.

My guess is that the elite blasters will be much more expensive than their ordinary counterparts, so unless you want the "COOL NEW ACCESSORIES AND COLOURS!", I wouldn't bother since if you have to mod it to reach 75 feet, you're better off saving money and modding the ordinary version blaster.

I don' t like this one bit, why the hell can't we have a foam Blasters that can shot 75 ft, it the same as we are not allowed to buy r18+ video games in australia but in usa they can buy and play R18+ video games.

The Blaster part I dare say is because of our 'over the top' gun laws.
Or some BS about kids hurting each other. Kids these days get there hands held way to much.

And the 18+ game rating is a completely different topic that spews off in lots of 'WTF's'

As for 18+ W.A about 6mths or more ago passed a 18+ classifcation so it a non issue.

I reckon I'm gonna get the Rampage/Retaliator, see how I like it and then possibly get the US version.

It will most likely be a bigger AR.

Bring back the Vintage Blasters. Like the Maxforce 2112, hypersight lines.

Create unique and different blasters rather than 1st person shooter assault rifles, recons etc. They are all the same.

Different and Unique! Break the Modern Day rules!

neither did I, looks like there might be some room for modding. not sure if that's the 50ft or the 75ft model in those pics, but I do see an AR, so if it's the 75ft version I'd say they'd probably go to 100 feet with some work.

100 ft. Recon/Raider sounds good

Retaliator = Recon
Rampage = Raider

I'm assuming that they plan too use the same system in the Retaliator.

Interested to see what dart compatibility will be like. Would be good if elite darts are interchangeable with the n-strike blasters and vice versa.

They should be compatible. Over on the HvZ forums, they managed to get in contact with the guy who got the blasters early. All interchangeable, people. The darts make a big difference, apparently.

I wonder if informer darts will out perform these elite darts..

Even if inf0rm3r darts will perform the 'same'. The pricing will always kills Nerf. His darts are like $20-$23 per 100 premade. They're $12-$15 per 100 if you buy the raw materials and make velocity tag silicone darts yourself (cost will vary if bought in bulk).

Elites will probably vary between $30-$35 pre made.

You have $100. You can buy about 500-800 velocity tag silicone darts. You can buy about 250-300 'elite nerf darts'.

I think we have a clear winner here.

While I'm a big supporter of Informer's products, you don't actually know how much Elite darts are going to cost. It might be slightly haphazard to make those kinds of calls. However I believe Informer's darts will remain superior.

I'm just going to go by the fact on how much they charge for streamlines right now. Averaging from $20-29 per hundred (even then, they've seemed to stop selling those 100 dart patches). And they perform horribly (unless you use whistlers). Nerf would probably have to make their prices cheaper if they want customers. I'm just sayin'.

But seriously why? I know gun laws are tighter than a homophobe's arsehole,but we are talking about toys here, it is not like we are going to hold up a bank with the 20 extra feet. This is outrageous!

Try doing a bit of research, before blowing your stack on an out of date thread. I think quite a large number of the NIC has already imported the Retaliator, Rampage and HailFire from Amazon.com, which are the US version. And, to be honest, they're not exactly that impressive that having reduced ranges on the OZ models is going to be an issue.
