Suitable darts for a modded longstrike Empty Suitable darts for a modded longstrike

    Post  Renmazuo27 Wed Jul 21, 2010 2:27 pm

I've just finished modding a Longstrike (My first Nerf mod so far). The mods done to it were a spacer added to the spring, Air Restrictor Removal and addition of plunger padding (Not really a mod.)

I've found now that my streamline darts curve with the additional power. The question is, is there a dart you guys would recommend for this situation. I'm under the belief that since it has very similar internals to a Recon, that the darts used for a modified Recon would be similar to a Longstrike.

However I'm looking for say a specialist opinion on this.

I understand and I'm fully aware I won't achieve the same ranges as a modified Longshot, so I've set myself the goal to consistently obtain a range of 30ft, which I have made. I'm just looking for the accuracy now.

Any feedback on this will be appreciated.

Get the darts and cut the top and fil it with hot glue. If the gun shoots over 50ft put a weight in there too.

Did you mean fully cut the top/head off and replace it with hot glue? Or did you mean cut a hole in the rubber top/head and fill that with hot glue?

hey man, congrats on your first mod!
next maybe just put this in the questions thread??

anyway, the dart your looking for are stefans. They are homemade darts that are made out of fbr(foam backing rod) and have a weight at the top(usually a small steel ball).

If you would like to try making these yourslef there are write ups all over youtube and all the materials you will need are sold from inf0rm3r. (except maybe a hot glue gun:P)

    Any way hope this helps

Thanks buddy, you're right. Does seem more of a questions thread, If the mods could move this please, thanks.

Stefans eh? I'll try and make a couple and see how I go, if not I'm assuming I could always buy some from the for sale thread.

yeah they have been seen in the sales thread but people sell them on and off.

if your using a longstrike that is only hitting 30ft id try using a slightly lighter weight maybe as it is lower powered, but test a few and see how it goes.

Stefans are generally too heavy for recons/longstikes etc

These guns work best with hot glue filled streamlines, you take a pair of scissors, place them at the top of the 'wall' of the dome just above the little air hole, then cut slowly so that you do not cut all the tip off. think of cutting from around 2-10 on the clock face.

Then lift up the flap, fill with hot glue and close it up making sure to re-align it, if done correctly you should barely be able to tell the dart has been modified other than the tip is solid now not soft.

Are the tips already hollow? Wondering if you could use a syringe to inject glue into the tip without hacking them up with scissors.

    Yes it is already hollow

You possibly could with silicone, but not hot glue, its to thick and would cool before being injected. I dont really think it's 'hacking', it's a smal snip and I use sharp scissors and get very clean cuts, when you reposition the top flap the seams usually meet flawlessly.

I got some silicon at work, so I'm gonna try filling a few with different amounts of silicon to get the best results.

    I'll keep you guys posted.

Silicone doesnt work too well ive tried it and it either leaks or wont sit straight. The one i did get right work OK, got like an extra 1 metre

Well I tried the silicon idea and I got some success!

I made two batches, 3 darts with their heads filled with silicon and another 3 only partially filled. The fully filled ones were too heavy but the partially filled ones all flew straight...almost glided even.

The one side effect I got and I'm assuming this could be attributed to the darts losing shape due to impacts, was for the 2nd round of shots for the partially filled darts, they lost their straightness.

I'm gonna try lacquering one of those partially filled darts to see if it'll hold it's shape longer.
