    Hey all,
Im in Melbourne, Moonee Ponds, 20 years old and new to nerf. Me and about 4 of my mates have just started so +4 to Melbourne

Can I start by saying how impressed I am with everyone’s knowledge and general ability. It’s a real patriotic boost to come from youtube filled with 12 year old American kids removing air restrictors and painting their blasters, to the aussies with full aluminum internals, a “blue foam” distributor and guys importing oldschool blasters.

I guess ill start from the top. Last Christmas was probably the first time I saw nerf, I tried so hard to get my hands on one. My girlfriend even ended up in a some what physical fight with a six year old child over the last one on display at my local shopping centers Toys r’ Us, she failed. So when I was walking past K-mart to see them on display at one of the front ends last weekend I got extremely exited, as all 20 year old children would.

Me and my mate decided to get one each (they turned out to be raider’s cs-35, but I had no idea at the time) and sneak into another friends bedroom and blast him until he woke up (he doesn’t normally get up until 3pm or so). So we rock up at his back garage door and called his brother to let us in, snuck upstairs and started laying into him. He proceeded to roll off his bed and reach under to pull out this massive contraption (it turned out to be a vulcan). We still got the better of him as his belt wasn’t loaded, so he tried to just beat us with the butt of it.

Then my mind started to wonder, what was the best nerf blaster, could I improve it, was there a sport similar to paint ball but with honesty rules. It turns out there was, which made me quite eager to improve my gun and have some fun with my mates. I never assumed it would have this much of a following.

I started off looking around on youtube and watching 12 year old Americans hit puberty and mod nerf blasters. This was only simple stuff tho, AR removal, more springs ect. Then I found this beautiful site.

So here I am, eager to go, with hundreds of questions and an aim to build the most powerful nerf gun ever. And before everyone jumps down my throat with how controversial the term “most powerful nerf gun ever” is, here’s a few things I’m aiming for.

    Range of 150 feet +
High accuracy (I was looking into a brass barrel/breach)
Durable (I was originally looking at a long shot, so I was going to replace all the part with aluminum)
Clip system (I don’t want to reload after every shot)

I was convinced a longshot was going to be the best to work with for what I wanted to achieve. However now I have some doubts, as the oldschool classic air pressure blasters seem to be a lot more suited to these sorts of ranges. After this blaster is complete I intend on getting a stampede and replacing the motor, springs ect. So I will have a fully auto blaster and a clip system sniper. Then I would look into a secondary, haven’t done much research as of the moment, but at first glance I was looking into a recon or barricade, but that’s a little way down the track.
All I have bought so far is a longshot and a raider cs35.

Lets start with some constructive criticism.

Ranges of 150ft would be extremely dangerous (that's 50metres) There is no way a Nerf gun will fire that far unless it's an air powered gun. If you want something with long range, the Longshot will be your best bet.

Guns of 150ft would usually be banned just for the fact that it would mean it would shoot further than even a paintball gun. You're expectations are TOO high.

You will find that you will have fun with guns that shoot roughly 70ft.

You need to remember these things shoot foam. Not ball bearings or paintball. Just need to know your limitations. A Longshot won't even get 100ft without it breaking in some spot after shooting.

However, I like your life story :D. It sounds like when I first bought my NiteFinder.

Rofl, sorry for the extremely long introduction

    Isn’t a Longshot a spring gun?

AJ is selling modded sm1500 that shoot 145 feet. . .

It breaking isn’t an issue, I’ll replace the screw sockets with metal if I have to. And their the only things that could break after replacing the internals with aluminum. Rules however are a slight issue, do they change from war to war? Or are they on the forum somewhere.
I cant imagine banning a blaster on range alone, it would be perfectly understandable if it was dangerous or a hazard but banning it on performance?.

PS I have to go to work now, I'll catch you later mate. Thanks for the advice tho = D

The rules changes depending on the host.

In the wars in Brisbane we limit them down because we don't want to get to the point where we have to use facemasks because the main problem is eye and teeth. That just makes the public think Nerf is dangerous which may lead to the banning of Nerf guns. But that's your preogrative. If you want Nerf to get banned because you want something to shoot ridiculously far and it causes damage to objects and people then you'll be in for it.

    Greetings.

Wonderful to see another older Melbourne player.
Most air guns will hit that 150 mark as their max, range will vary depending on wind and other things.

Concerning the banning of a gun it will be up to Kingcam, Pois0n, Silent scope or myself to name a few of the people who organise wars (other organisers don't get cranky if I didn't name someone).

For cheap and easy to get blasters I'd recommend a triple shot which can easily be modded to respectable ranges. Or if you feel up to making some hopper clips. Mega missiles or buzz bee ultimate missile blasts are a good option. They are all cheap (up to 30 bucks)and easy to mod.

Good luck with your modding and I hop to see you soon at some wars.

Just so you know, littlebro does NOT speak for all of us, he's simply a QLD representative and they do things differently over there. I'm not sure how the rest of the VIC crowd will take it but here in SA we do have and use guns that shoot about 150ft+ in wars but they're only allowed in one kind of event so far, which is FFP(rules for this can be found in the nerf war section). We do strongly suggest facial protection such as facemasks but this is optional. I'm full aware of what pain these can cause yet I still chooose not to wear any facemasks as I don't feel the need to, personally. They might be a good idea for other people though.

The only spring powered guns capable of achieving such ranges are homemades and they're called +bows, but other variants such as snapbows, pumpbows etc exist too. Nobody's really designed specific clips for these but many americans use hoppers. Maybe that's what you're looking for. A prolific member named AJ is going to be making these soon, and I wouldn't buy these from anyone else nor would I attempt to make my own, unless you have a lot of experience.

Nothing is going to beat an air powered gun for range though, the springers don't even compete. As far as modding a stock
"gun" goes, nothing beats the almighty titan, which can launch stefans up to 300ft, maybe even more. That would require specialised stefans though, and a LOT of overpumping a plugged tank.

What you're going for is an admirable feat but of course, what you consider to be the best isn't going to be the same for everyone. You can pretty much strike accuracy off your list, as shooting anything with a stefan past 80ft consistently is going to require an act of God. It's not your gun, it's the ammunition we use. So unless you can come up with a cheap and effective way to create reliable ammunition, forget about that one.

The ranges, durability and clip system can easily be accomplished and I would suggest you take a good look at AJ's mega raider 2.0(yes, him again, all roads will lead to only a few people on here), which is essentially a mega missile's tank housed inside a raider which you can clip feed. There's plenty of pictures and a write-up on it, so feel free to study it. Your only other options are titan tanks, 4B tanks or a springer involving something like the american k26 which they use in +bows.

All this being said though, I would wager that nobody in Melbourne would feel comfortable playing with anyone using these guns unless it's FFP and even then, only pre-approved(translate: very well trusted) people would be using anything like this. Build up a reputation of trustworthiness with the local community first, and practice plenty of safe gun usage while improving the local scene and I'm sure that in time, there will be ample opportunity for you to pwn some noobs.

Thanks a heap mate, that’s exactly, down to the letter, the response I was looking for. I guess ill just play with my longshot atm. Ill work on the brass barrel/breach and aluminum internals and then move onto a stampede and pistol. When I’m happy with those three guns I might come back and look into these titan tanks, 4b and k26’s. Sounds like a league of its own = D I really like the sound of the k26, avoiding pump up tanks would be good.

Anyway iv looked around a lot and I cant seem to find the definition of a nested breach and an angle breach, could anyone point me in the right direction.
