    G’day Perth Nerfers,
Have you ever thought ‘would I look cool in armour?’
Or ‘will chicks dig me if I hit people with swords?’
I’m here to tell you no, neither will ever be true- but we can help you find out for yourself.

Hi, I’m Steve aka Wickerman, and I am a member of the re-enactment society The Grey Company (website ). We are an historical fighting & social club based in Perth, and if you’re interested in this sort of thing, then we would love you to join us.

Our main interest is the ‘Dark Ages’ (600-1100AD), but over the last 25 years we have expanded to include periods from the Roman to Victorian eras. We do both competitive fighting and public display/show fighting as well as other cool shit like making armour & weapons, building seige weapons, combat archery (medieval paintball), brewing, feasting and wenching (dependant on wives/gfs). Our next show is on the 13th November at Minnawarra Park in Armadale, where we’ll be taking part in the Highland Games. We do training each Sunday, usually at West Leederville Primary School.

So, If your interested check out the website & reply below or pm me!

I don't know if you're being sarcastic about that, but please give people some respect of what they're likes are. Nerf is a geeky hobby too and you know it.

Hey I would be quite interested because these reenactment lets you wear full scale armor right? It be pretty could be pretty cool to walk around in. Experiencing something new. I wish I lived in Perth :(.

Hardcore. Wish I lived over there. Tassie doesn't really have anything like that. (lol, Tassie doesn't really have anything at all :P)

You'll probably be able to find an SCA group in tassie. They do the whole medieval thing with combat archery and heavy combat. They're a worldwide organisation.

Thats ok, we can be kinda geeky.
But just remember, you are on a forum that consists of grown men talking about their affection for brightly coloured children's plastic toys

And to clarify- this is not LARPing (like in the movie Role Models). Here's a link to a movie we took part in.

@littlebro- Yes our aim is to accurately portray historical combat weapons, armour & costume, so not only is the armour based on historical pieces, we also try to make it using traditional methods. It is cool to wear, except in summer when it's bloody hot to wear 30kg of gear, but it does keep you fit.
There are also way more groups in the eastern states than in WA. If you are interested, the New Varangian Guard among others are in Brisbane.

@neumein- The two groups I know of in Tasmania are the SCA and dragons realm . I would point out that, while both groups do competitive combat, they are more into LARP/pretend titles sort of thing.

so you actually fight each other with real swords?
Personally I'd be more interested in the forging process of the armour but fighting with real swords (i'm assuming blunt) would be cool.

Yeah I heard about combat archery. You pretty much wear armor and shoot each other with arrows with tips the size 20cent coins I think. I wanted to try that out.

Yes, we use blunted steel weapons (swords, axes, spears, polearms etc). If you are interested in how armour is made there is an awesome program that been put on youtube called Weapons That Made Britain

To give an idea of what the combat is like this is one of the many re-enactment battles that take place in Europe. I was over there a couple of months ago & it is a really big thing, especially in eastern Europe.

Yup, exactly that- aka medieval paintball

    And here's one for laughs
