    Hey guys,

I am currently working on an air powered projectile launching platform. This platform will mainly be used for shooting wax projectiles at targets in a safe location, but will also be able to be converted to fire nerf darts. (obviously i will be running 30-40 psi for that application :P)

It uses a barrel sealing piston design, to understand how they work look here
    http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/piston-valves-explained-visually-t8157.html

The advantages of using the barrel sealer over any of the other designs are:
    A)simplicity of design
B)ability to add a breach without having lots of "dead space" (wasted space)

The advantages over a ball valve:

A)Speed of actuation makes the piston valve more efficient
B)The ability to add a trigger improves ergonomics and removes the sudden jerk when you forcefully open the valve
    C) The ability to go semi-auto.

In this particular example I am using 1/4 inch compressor fittings as they are readily available, easily modded and are pressure rated a LOT higher than i am planning on using this at (safer than PVC). In terms of safety ally and brass will tear where as PVC will shatter sending plastic at high velocity very where.

Build time for this project so far (I'm not finished) was about 3-4 hrs

    Picture Time

    Take down:
    >take note of the piston, it is cast form hot glue and contains a rubber sealing face
    >the 6mm OD ally tube is tapered on the sealing side to aid with sealing

    Close up of piston:

    View from chamber or 'fill':
    >see the piston is not closed against the ally tube
    >this is what happens when the valve is actuated.

Unfortunately my camera, *cough* canon 550D *cough*, has run out of power, more pictures and probably a video to come tomorrow.

    50 psi testing:

work that still needs to be done:
Cut breach and build sliding breach cover.
    Build air tank.
    Build stock
    paint
