So, yes, I did pick up a Longstrike today. And since its Perth, modding capability isn't really an issue at the moment.
But, I digress.
Initial impression:
Good sized box, but the packing is a mixed bag. I do appreciate most of the contents being encased in cardboard, but the twine ruined it for me in comparison to unpacking my clear raider. But definitely better than when unpacking my recon.
Stock feels nice and solid.
Adding the barrel extension, and then comparing it to myself - priceless. This thing is freaking long. Probably close to the size of my 10 year old cousin . . . or maybe their just short.
Bolt action is nice, and I definitely prefer it to the Recon, but the stubs to stick out quite a bit horizontally.
Firing:
A nice solid chunk when you fire it (for mine anyway).
Clip reloads are a bit weird, as the clip receptacle is about 10cm further away than on the recon.
Sights and Tacticool rails:
Initially, I thought they were pretty awesome. Wrong. They are awkward when you have just picked it up. The biggest gripe i have is that when you do "sight up", the stock is a little too low to be able to use something like the Mission Pack scope comfortably, with your cheek on the stock. I suggest putting the sight on with the big circle in front if using it in the compact position.
Attachments on other blasters:
My recon barrel struggled to get on and off. It seems that the longstrike barrel nub is a bit wider than the recons (by a few millimetres at most) and so the longstrike attachment was accordingly loose on my recon. Sights swap around ok.
One thing I found however is that when swapping between my Longstrike and my Recon, your hand can feel disoriented after being used to holding an angled handle, compared to the relatively vertical Recon handle.
Overall, it is a decent stock blaster. Not the best available, and it can be a bit ungainly at first.
On looks, definitely a 9/10. Not perfect (obviously), but one of the better looking blasters available.
Performance (Stock) would have to be an 8/10. Due to reverse plunger etc.
Overall and 8/10, due to those few niggles, but if you are thinking of buying one for active use, I suggest trying to find one to have a fiddle with before buying.
On the side though, is it me, or does the longstrike have a longer plunger tube than the recon. They are pretty much the same width, but it just looks like it is longer.
But, I digress.
