To all our QLD members affected by the floods and now the cyclone, my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

    Stay safe.

Luckily, where I live is away from the direct path of Yasi, but I have a heap of mates that had to abandon their homes over the last couple of days. The worst bit is, after the carnage has ceased, the ensuing rain will only create a domino effect, and flood the rest of the Eastern side of the state once again.

You are in our hearts and prayers FNQ!!!

I like how some people refused to evacuate and then whined about how the SES wasn;t going to rescue them.

Not a great deal of common-sense displayed by a minority of people. Really, you wouldn't think it would be such a difficult decision to evacuate. Take what can't be replaced, and let insurance deal with the rest...

Yah - would be quite funny if they where not in a life-and-death situation.

I think your own comment applies to yourself there.

I'm glad Yasi's destruction wasn't as bad as predicted and I hope QLD can get back on their feet asap

Just to clarify about at least one group who didn't evacuate. They were not informed that they were in danger and only called emergency services to let them know that they where there not to get an evac.

The water was coming up as fast as 1M every 3-4 minutes in some places, it didn't give people a lot of time.

There was obviously alot of different circumstances, and reasons why groups didn't evacuate. But it's pretty hard to comprehend those that stayed, and were well informed, and had the opportunity to leave. There's not a great deal you can do during the carnage, and a life can't be replaced.

I'm just thankful that the people I know in that area, escaped relatively unscathed.
