I'll take one thanks. I'll be going to the FG war on the 2nd of April and the 5v5 on the 1st of May. If that's not enough time for you to make it I don't mind waiting for the next batch.

When I go to attach the bolt nub to the brass what glue would you recommend as well as recommended spring load*. (Any advice is welcomed)

*Will a V1 LS + QS + stock LS be too much for the breech to handle?

Not sure about too much load. Probably. But are the V1 LS and stock LS springs have similar diameter? If so, when they compress they are going to squash against each other and prevent full compression. You should only use combination springs if they have different diameters.

Should have the second batch ready by the May 1 war.

For glue I use the Selleys Araldite Super Strength. It is a 2 part type that requires you to mix some 5 mins before use and allow to cure for 3 days. It's $15 or $20 from Bunnings from memory but it is perfect for Nerf mods and lasts ages.

I don't have those springs so I can't comment on that exactly but I'm using a V2 spring without issue. If you glue it well enough there will be lots of other things breaking from the load first.

The stock and V1 were made to go together and the QS has a much smaller OD than the other two - they compress well.

    Great, I'll buy it there.

That's great because I have an aluminium bolt sled and less than a V2 in spring power.

The version 2 spring will last as long as you have copious amoutns of 3 day epoxy. I've fired mine about 50times now, and it's still holding up
might put some more on later so it's indestructable.

I don't think I need to worry about that, I'm considering taking out the stock LS spring so my RoF improves and so my friends can use it too.
On that note, I've found that technique is more important than strength when it comes to priming blasters, I have friends who are stronger than me but can't prime blasters that I can.

No they're not all ready yet. I sent the ones I had already finished to the guys who paid first.

I'll have some more ready mid next week. Just wanting on some more brass before I can finish them all.

I just sent it now ($30). So I've paid oxymoron your brass breech, but I still have not paid for my own stuff.

Finn, could you just let me know when you want the payment for me? As much as possible I'd like to hold it off until my next paycheck but it's about 2 weeks away - so if you want it earlier that's cool.

    Hey,

Barrel turned up today. Quality workmanship, definitely recommend them. It certainly makes it easier for guys like me who find it hard to purchase brass in 4 sizes from the one store online.

Cheers Finn, I'll let you know how the test-firing goes in a few more days, after the epoxy has cured.

    Nice work mate, thanks again.

    Hi all,

Finished the breech on my LS tonight - I'm quite impressed. Range has increased by at least 30 feet.
I'll take some photo's tomorrow, and do some proper range tests if the rain pisses off!!

    Thanks again Finn.

SD, I'll ship all yours together with your BT stuff mid next week. Your breech should be done Tuesday along with 7 others.

Echoed - if I told you, I'd have to kill you

Xoenz - the 17/32 is the best fit for streamlines but that is the one size I only have just enough of sorry.

If anyone needs some 1/2" I have about 10 pieces left over.

Just take your time and think through each step. It's not difficult, but you'll need to be paying attention, as it's easy to overlook some stages of the assembly.

Probably the biggest thing is giving whatever epoxy you use time to cure properly. Guaranteed to ruin all your hard work if you're impatient.

Very disappointed with my brass breeching experience. Front barrel 9/16" tube sometimes won't slide into the bolt system, and if managed to, it is very tight in the bolt system and got stuck. I have observed and speculated the problem is due to slight skew of the inner 1/2" tube upward, which caused the 9/16" tube to get stuck in between the outer 19/32" tube and the inner 1/2" tube.

No longer for sale - Page 2 Brass_10

The left one is correctly aligned tubes. The right one has the 1/2" tube slightly skewed upward, thus narrowing the space in between the 19/32" and 1/2" tubes.

I suppose the maker if you see it before you even use it. It could be your fault if you repeatedly misuse it. Brass is easily malleable.

Then again, unless we discover a brass breech making machine, it's gonna be hard to mass produce these things.

Don't worry it should be fixable. It will just be an alignment issue. Pm on it's way soon.

Post  Akimbo Assassin Sun Apr 03, 2011 5:53 am

Too late, it's all over. I reassembled the brass system back just now, with the breech closed, I twisted the front barrel and the bolt system to smooth out any irregularity of the brass tubes. Put back into the gun and tried priming it, but it still stuck and the bolt pushed the front brass tube out from the front barrel when I primed it back forward. So I had to reopened the gun and found the front 9/16" brass is bent slightly where it is supposed to slide smoothly into the bolt system. I tried to bend the front 9/16" brass tube back to straight position, and suddenly SNAPPED. It broke at one of the tightening rings. That's it, the whole $39 brass tubes, the $8 tube cutter I had to buy to tighten the brass tube, the number of hours invested as well as the bolt which is now permanently epoxy glued to the brass assembly is now useless. A very expensive lesson for me and very disappointed brass tubes from Oxymoron unfortunately.

Hey just a note about using pipecutters to make tightening rings. I find that replacing the cutting wheel with a similarly sized washer and using that will actually prevent these breakages. I brassed the barrel in my longshot about a year ago because I broke the cliptooth. I used the above said method to create the rings and nothing's gone wrong yet.

I don't see the point adding tightening rings to the longshot brass barrel. You saw my longshot shoot oxymoron. That's no tightening rings, the barrel was about 13cm long (almost half the length of your Nerf Longshot) and mine still shot the same, or slightly better (give or take) as yours were. The tightening rings I see is a hindrance rather than a help. My springs were lesser than the v2 LongShot spring itself too. LS and TS combination.

I found if I didn't add tightening ring the the brass barrel, when a dart in loaded in it and you have the barrel tilted towards the ground, the dart will just fall out from the barrel. With tightening ring, the dart stays in the barrel. Very important when you are on the run and your Longshot is swinging and pointing downward. You don't want the dart to fall out and when you fire, you only fire a blank. Anyway it is all history now, my brass breech attempt turned out to be a total failure. No more brass breech for me.

The tightening rings give a better seal on the dart IMO. I haven't had an issue with a berrel breaking from tightening rings myself. I'm very careful to only do it just enough. Akimbo added his own rings as I forgot to do them on the fist couple of sets I sold. I offered to send another barrel for free but he declined.
