New Longshot Spring Kit Empty New Longshot Spring Kit

Post  oznerfnerd Sat Nov 05, 2011 5:22 am

    Hi All,

Here is our new Longshot spring kit:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/280767318852?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

The spring is a true 14kg load, which is about as heavy as you'd want to go without extensive reinforcement and metal parts.

I do strongly recommend you use these with it:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/270831491137?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

It is designed especially for the Longshot only, with specific consideration to the ID, OD, stoke and compressed lengths of the Longshots plunger.

You do need to consider whether you are strong enough to cock it. It's not insanely heavy, but it does take some pulling.

Instead of using stainless which is commonly used in replacement nerf springs, I have gone with pre coated R2 piano wire for this spring, which gives about 10% more strength and less sagging with use.

The ends are ground flat, which costs more but gives better stability and action in a spring of this wire guage.

This is a real good kit which works well when installed correctly.

With a standard breach and med/heavy darts, you will have a good mid range blaster.

With a well made brass breach and heavy darts you will own at mid to long range.

    Check it out.

    Looks pretty good mate.

I'll have to order a couple once I get motivated again.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

I should point out that while I was looking at heavier options, I noticed that a lot of the springs available only reached their claimed load in kg's when compressed to solid height (ie, fully squashed).

In most nerf applications the spring is not fully compressed.

This spring gives a full 14kg (15kg actually, but I'm told it will settle a little bit) when installed in a cocked Longshot.

Also the plunger seal is tighter, but not so tight as to slow the release of the plunger when fire. Too tight a seal can cause a problem as well.

Basically this is as heavy as I'd go for the intermediate modder who wants to fit out a brand new LS without buying all metal parts.

All you need is tools and glue.
