    Hello fellow NERFers.
I am here to ask a question of thee. I have recently been pondering the fact of if there are any modifications to the NERF 6 round clip that are worthy of my interests.

    Many gentlemanly regards; Shadowsniper.

I thought I asked about mods for the 6 round clip. No offence of course!

    Simple mod.

Get 2x 6 clips. Tape them together.

Or you can go with the old school 'Superclip'. Two clips cut and shut to take 12 darts. I'm working on one at the moment.

There is also a mod to streamline the clip down to a 4 dart clip that fits flush with the blaster. A bit pointless for anything other than cosmetic reasons though.

Here is an example of both ...

Left: Cut back 6 round mag (hold 5 darts without jams).
Right: 12 round mag (two 6 round mags joined together).

Hmm, never seen a shortened mag like that before. When I make them, I just chop off everything below the plastic rim (after removing the spring and such, naturally) and epoxy on a new floorplate made from sheet metal.

Still holds five darts no problem, plus the added weight of the sheet metal means in most blasters it'll just drop out if you pull the clip release button, so reloadings easier.

What does it look like in a blaster?

And it really does look heaps neater, I might have to try that for my next minimag.

In a recon it is flush with that grey nub hanging down in front of the mag well.
So when you look front on to the recon the mag can't been seen.
From the side you can only see the small bottom part with the screws in it (below the mag rim).

I was doing some experimenting with it, to see if you could get 6 darts into a mini-mag.
It is possible if you cut the few mil off the bottom of the dart feeder in the mag.
But the feeder become unreliable and tends to push up uneven on one end.
Also the 6th dart is being pushed on a little too much and can cause jam's or dart shaving.

I'll take some pictures of the mini-mag in a recon during day light and post them for you if you want?

    Hey Shadow,

Just curious as to what you use for a spring in the 12-round clips?

    Cheers,

It is just the two original springs glued together to make a full size spring. (I think)

Looking at it, I figured that to be the simplest approach. But, throwing it out there in case anyone has found a suitable replacement spring. Not that I've had a look around yet, but it never hurts to ask.

    Cheers,

Yeah just joined to of the six'ers together.
I was thinking maybe you could get more out of the mag (capacity) if you used a different approach to the spring.
I like the look of the spring 'Shell Shock X-6' mag seems like a good one.

Thanks mate. I'm probably looking at building maybe 12 or so of these, so maybe I'll keep an eye out for a suitable replacement.

    No problem Clunk : )

Just a few tips on them though ...
Sometimes (you may have noticed this yourself) at the top they glue the joining clips together on some of the mags.
Not sure if its an old practice or a new one.
Had to use a fine cutting tools and cut side of the top part mag to open it.
The rest is pretty much self explanatory by the photo.

If you need close ups photos, photos of other parts or info just let me know.

Hey, thanks mate. You should post a quick tutorial up. Even if it's just pic's and a few lines of text. I'm sure a lot of member's would get some value out of it.

I haven't started playing around with any yet, but was going through my clip collection yesterday, and I've got around 36 x 6-round clips. I figured I may as well do something useful with them. Turning them in to 12-round clips, with possibly a clear window (like 238232 did on the Stampede clips)and a paint job with my CWC skull stencil - hopefully will work out quite well.

Finding some 3mm polycarb will be the biggest issue, as always.. haha.

Anyway, I appreciate the help mate, and I'll let you know if I need anything.

    Cheers,

Welcome mate, always happy to help out.

haha yeah the polly carb could be a problem.
I went chasing 3mm plastic card a month or so back.
That High Impact Styrene Plasticard they use for 40k models and stuff.
My jaw hit the ground on the price.

I have been meaning to do a tutorial on the 12 mag.
I will try and get it done sometime this week.

Yeh, I've been meaning to get some plasticard myself. I've been keeping an eye on this guy from Cairns on ebay. The prices are pretty good in my opinion... $19 for 3 x A4 sized 3mm sheets, with free postage...

    Here you go Clunk, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lexan-Polycarbonate-A3-Sheet-297x420x3mm-clear-UV-Resist-Strong-Material-SALE-/250990063168?pt=AU_Building_Materials&hash=item3a702c6e40

    Thanks Luke,

Just been looking myself... strange I didn't see this one myself.
On a side-note, can anyone tell me if acrylic would be a good substitute for polycarb, in non-structural applications. eg: will it work as a viewing window in the clips?

From my quick research, it should be fine, and bonding to the plastic of the clip shouldn't be an issue either...

    Cheers,

Yeh, I'll probably buy off him just so that my money gets a break from constantly being spent in SEQ!!

Free postage is a bonus too, and would only take about 3 - 4 days tops from FNQ.

I use 5mm acrylic for my barrel spacers. It's really good stuff, local too.

That polycarb would be perfect for viewing windows seeing as it's so thin but for anything structural I'd actually opt for a thicker sheet of acrylic. I get mine at $5 for an A4 sheet.
Generally speaking polycarb is superior to acrylic but it's many times more expensive in decent thicknesses.
