Nerf Longshot to Halo 3 Battle rifle MOD

This is a work in progress, be kind!

So what i have here is a nerf long-shot that i am in the process of turning in to the halo 3 battle rifle though it isn't quite long enough for my liking i think its coming along alright.

what i have done:
* pulled it all apart and removed the air restrictors
* added the nerf recon spring to the firing pin for an extra boost (also padded the head due to ware and tare)
* removed the stock and joined a recon stock cut down to size
* extended the barrel out with the front attachment barrel
* sawn off the front 2 inches of the main unit to get the battle rifle shape
* Attached thick cardboard as a frame for the look of the battle rifle

What i would still like to do:
* Mod the datrs
* Find something to cover the body of the nerf over the frame work ( thinking fibreglass or if any one knows something better to use )
* paint up the body

I think you should try for acrylic or some sort of sturdy, but cheap plastic. Cardboard doesn't tend to be very strengthy.

That's actually looking real good.
I agree with Lil'b though, cardboard is not as strong as plastic.
But with some paint I think it will be great!!!

yea i know what you mean sadly cardboard is all i have acces to at the moment but i will be re enforcing it with something just not sure what yet and hopefully ill be able to coat it with a thin layer of fibreglass

Unless you want to use your Longshot for display purpose only, I would not use cardboard at all

I would use Cardboard as a template.

like the others instead of cardboard or thin fiberglas you could you plastic perspex
from bunnings or other places

the main problem i have is limited space and money what about MDF? would that be cheaper then perspex?

I think its HECTIC! ! But the cardboard wrecks the look, get some acrilic for that as people said above.

might make a trip to the local hardware store then see what my options are. if i find anything outstanding ill be sure to post it.

Im also thinking just for looks alone to get a cheap scope ( real one ) i know a guy I bowl with that owns a gun store so im sure i could get one cheap

While I was reading all I could see was that top picture and I thought "wow that's cardboard incredible!"

I'd use sheet styrene often known as plasticard Check out your local hobby shop.

But you'd have to be careful with that cardboard, If i where you, I'd draw the cut-out of the front grip on many different bits of cardboard, glue them all together and then it would be very sturdy mate

I think although multiple layers of cardboard would be quite sturdy i would rather a plastic or MDF material that will be solid incase i fall on it as i am rather clumsy

all in all i think the worst part will be slowly pulling it apart and replacing pieces one by one that and ill need a few new tools.

on a secondary note just looking on ebay at scopes for the visual appeal, there are some on there for less then $50

I'd go for thye nerf tactical scope, But if your badass, Buy an ACOG or something

Although the ACOG scopes are good they are also ver expensive which for me is a very big negative as i don't have a lot of money so to get one yes i would have to be hardcore

Which is why I bought a cheap reflex scope from DealExtreme. Cost me about $25 (including free shipping, but as you all know DealExtreme takes a looonnnggg time to post to you. Nearly one month for me). It looks like a real gun scope, but of course I think it is designed more for Airsoft guns, not for real guns. Quite solidly built with full metal construction. One thing though to be awared is the clamp does not hold well on Nerf rail, so I had to do a bit of filing and hot glue on the Nerf rail to make it more secure.





In the second pic, you can see the red laser dot which appears big, soft and diffuse, that's because my camera lens is focusing on the reflex scope itself, not on the red dot. In reality, the red dot is smaller and sharp, just like the red laser dot from a laser pointer.

That is very cool! I think to that it would be more practical then an actual magnified scope as it simply gives you a reference point.

Your scope's off centre. And angled to the left

Good observation, which is why I mentioned earlier that the clamp does not sit well on Nerf rail. Even after I modded the rail, the scope does not sit upright vertically, it tilts slightly to the left. But guess what, since I am a right-hander holding my Longshot on my right side, I find that with the scope slightly tilted to left, I don't have to tilt my head as much to the right in order to look into the scope. So it works out well in the end. Mind you, we don't really have to worry much about reduced accuracy, because Nerf darts are crap in accuracy themselves.

I might have to get me one of these :p

i have a reflex sight laying about but it just doesn't have the same visual appeal as a full scope

Do you find it a pain to have to look into the sight though, and potentially take your awareness away from what's happening behind or around you?
