Stiffening Stock Darts Empty Stiffening Stock Darts

Post  Arania Sat May 29, 2010 4:03 am

    Hi all,

I just wanted to get people's opinions on the best way to stiffen up stock nerf darts (specifically streamline darts). Reason being I recently purchased a refill pack of darts and noticed that the newer darts had significantly stiffer stems than the older darts, and got an extra 10-15ft of range.

The only idea that I had was to spray the darts with an aerosol starch, but held off on that because of the possibility of it scraping off in use and jamming the gun internals.

    Ideas?

Try putting a length of straw in the dart. It will stop the bending.

The propellants used in aerosol products will mest the foam, so maybe don't do that

I'll second MS4E's "straw" approach. I use hep20 on my Nitefinder, and it's a tight fit on my converted streamlines, and after a few times being twisted into the barrel and shot out again, darts can end up pretty borked. The straw mod is a wonderfully cheap and easy way to stop this happening, or at least delay its onset.

I gave the straw solution a go. It made performance worse, unfortunately (range dropped about 15 feet). Perhaps the staws were too heavy? I just got some supermarket drinking straws of the appropriate diameter, stuck them in the stem and trimmed off the excess...

This is a copy of someone on youtube and may work for you. First put your darts inside a pillow case tie it up and put it in a dryer. If you don't have a dryer then stick a blow dryer and stick it in that will harden/stiffen the darts

What gun(s) are you using with these darts. Straws in dart usually increase range. It could just be your gun and the low air flow.
