    Rapidfire 20 Empty Rapidfire 20

Post  Winterstrike Thu Nov 26, 2009 12:34 am

I bought a Nerf rapidfire 20 online. It cost me about $70. I however messed up the simplest of mods but I'm probably doing something very wrong.

When I opened it up, two springs and a little plastic bit came out and I'm only guessing as to how to put them back. They appear to go behind the barrel assembly. Anyway, I opened the barrel assembly and all the air restrictors just fell out, which is meant to happen. No drilling or dremel required. However, when I reassemble the gun the barrel assembly doesn't rotate and it doesn't shoot out of the barrel anymore.

I've tried opening it and reassembling it about 10 times now but I can't figure it out. One time, the turret did move, but the darts barely came out, with no power and not all of them shot out.

If anyone can tell me what's wrong, I'd love to know. I can bring it over to your place too as I admit I'm not the best at this kind of engineering. It worked when it was stock but the ranges were pitiful, so I hoped the air restrictor removal would help a bit.

Anyway, if anyone can help me fix it that'd be great. I'd love to buy anyone dinner who can help. My unit is a terrible place for me to work on it so I'd prefer to bring it to your place where we can have more space.

    Hey chad

I'm on holidays now so actually have some spare time, I've never had any experience with the RF20, but I'm sure we could get it working again through the power of common sense and internets if you wanted to drop round sometime. I actually have one coming over from the states too, didn't cost me that much though as I got it 2nd hand on NH

Thanks Alex, very kind. I was working on it a couple more hours and I fixed it.

So who wants to call me an idiot? You'll never know the 2 problems I had.

    1) Put in all the damn screws before you test fire. I was lazy and wanted to keep test firing it without putting in ALL 20 or so screws but because I didn't, that was causing the casing to not be tight enough around the gun, so the internals weren't working right.

    2) So the above fixed the barrel, it was rotating again. Then for another two hours I kept wondering why the gun's power was so low and the stock darts didn't fire out well. The stock darts. The darts that came with the gun. Big mistake. The RF20 no longer uses stock darts well. I didn't know that until out of sheer curiosity I tried stefans and it works great. I was so "WTF?" when all 20 shot out fine, but the stock darts kinda just sat in the barrel. I guess the air seal was no longer tight enough.

So there you have it, feel free to call me names. On the plus side, if you have problems with the RF20, I think I've pretty much memorised the internals.
