I have a couple of blasters, Maverick (whiteout), Longstrike, and a Recon. Haven't done any modding yet, definitely want to, and i know all the logistics of modding, its just applying myself. I did woodwork classes for 4 years, and never any metal/plastic works, so I'm a bit unsure when it comes to modding.

Just do some research my friend, experiment new things and you'll get right into it. Some modders get into it slowly. Then BAM, some others get right into it and produce some of the scariest blasters I've seen.
Don't be to afraid because there's always a chance for things to break when you're modifying your blasters. However, look around in our modding directory located and stickied on the top of our modification section of the forum.
