Help deciding - Alpha Trooper or Barrel Break? Empty Help deciding - Alpha Trooper or Barrel Break?

Post  PhantomSambo Tue Nov 09, 2010 8:10 am

    Hello,

I was recently in Toys R Us and Target (At separate times of course) and saw that an Alpha Trooper and a Barrel Break are the same price ($30.00). I need help deciding which to get.

    Barrel Break

Pros: Looks epic. Comes with Tac Rail accessory
On sale at Toys R Us until 16 Nov

Cons: On sale at Toys R Us until 16 Nov

    Alpha Trooper

Pros: (Quote from the Nerf Wiki:) "The Alpha Trooper is extremely accurate, very reliable, and is also capable of Slam Firing"

    Cons: Jams often
Uses the same plunger system as a Recon

As both are the same price, I'm leaning towards the alpha trooper.

All I can say is don't choose any if you're going to have strife on choose which one to buy. It's that or make your own freaking decision.

I would get both, but thats just me.Depending on what you want, the Barrel break could be a good sidearm, the Alpha Trooper is a good secondary.

Or what LilB said :P, lolz

    I agree with Littlebro05, but...

I would get the Alpha Trooper. The barrel-break takes an aweful long time to reload, with only 2 shots.

But if you do get the Alpha Trooper, use slam fire most of the time. It gets better ranges.

    Good luck.

They're both reverse plungers. So technically, don't buy any at all...

Unless you plan on overhauling it. (If that is the right term...)

But I cant imagine you doing it. Or me, for that matter.

Although homemade plunger tubes can be made, they are difficult and for experienced modders. *looks at -AJ-*

Get a Longshot, Titan, some sort of long-range weapon etc. and a handy sidearm, such as a Magstrike. Then a tetriary, NiteFinder etc. etc.

I would buy the trooper, it's a good noob gun for first timers. Come along to our indoor nerf war in the hills to check out what we all use if you need further help.

Have an Alpha Trooper for over a month (imported mine from US for about $55). Good compact carbine size blaster. Decent range and accuracy in stock form. Fast slam fire. Versatile and compact 18-dart drum magazine. Now it will be $24 from Target this Thursday, it is a no-brainer

Def get the alpha trooper, the barrel break is a fun gun for role-play, but has no practical advantage. I like to use mine in HvZ but that is about all.

The alpha trooper is a lighter, raster, more stable raider with a cool 18-drum mag that can be used on any clip gun. I have been trying to find one all week dammit!

I'm going to have to put another three Alpha Troopers on lay-by on Thursday (if I can, that is).

And then rip-off some customers to pay it all off.

In stock form, AT shoots only slightly further than Raider, maybe by a few feet. I am talking about shooting from shoulder height, at parellel angle.

My AT is slightly modded with AR removed and air hole taped. It still shoots only 25-35 feet. I am using stock streamline darts with the tips filled wiht hot glue, I found that made the darts fly straighter but slightly shorter range. So bear that in mind.

When you were drilling out the AR, did you see any spring come out? I think the new AR system actually lets more air in without harming the plunger so badly.

Yes it has a spring in the AR there LilB. But it is a new look to the AR for a DP, has a 2 pegs, one the dart side of the AE spring that just seems to be there to hold the dart, the other is behind the first peg there you will find the spring.

I did not drill mine out. I might take pics if I remember to on the next AT that is waiting to be done.

I can't recall whether or not there is a spring in the AR. Must be dementia

I have read from other internet sites that this new type of AR does not hinder the performance of the darts, so that may explain why I did not notice much improvement in my range.

I will wait till this Thursday before I buy another AT and check inside the AR again.
