Melbourne War - Back to the Westside, again: Sunday May 29th 2011

Alright peoples, lets try this again.

When:

• Date: Sunday May 29th
  
• Time: 9:30am - 3:30pm (or whereabouts)

Where:

• Location: Keilor Botanical Gardens
  
• Street: Stadium Drive, turn left from Keilor Park Drive after exiting the M79 Calder Fwy outbound from the CBD
  
• Meeting Place: First carpark on the left upon entering from the roundabout near the playground (tennis courts carpark)

What to Bring:

• appropriate blasters and equipment (primaries, secondaries, shields etc.)
  
• darts (suggested amount is 100+) and other munitions (eg. grenades)
  
• money for trading and buying food/drink
  
• safety eyewear - PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN, I ONLY HAVE A COUPLE TO LEND!
  
• appropriate clothing
  
• food/drink if you're not buying anything

Game Modes (including but not limited to):

• FFL
  
• FFP
  
• TDM
  
• E-peen (that's right, bring the big guns)
  
• pistol-only fights

It's a 24 hour park, so don't sweat it.

I will be refereeing some of the matches, so be on your best behavior or I'll start busting up some balls. During morning and midbreak, you can get the chance to do your nerf bazaar trading so make sure you bring the appropriate amount of cash to do so. Apart from that, post here whether you are able to come and if possible, list any wares you may be providing. If you have any personal requests as to what modified blasters you may want to buy or trade, post here and I'll see what I can provide.

Given the facilities here, there are BBQs located near the playground available for lunch and whatnot. And as Matt has verified, the locations of the restrooms are on the map he has provided

sweet i haven't seen that many Melbourne wars around. i haven't been on this site long though. will it be noob friendly? i haven't been to a proper nerf war before.

Nah, you should be fine. If I can get my stuff done in the next two weeks, I will hopefully have a bunch of loaner blasters to help everyone pumped up and ready from the get go.

thats good to hear, i have a few guns, and have done a bit with friends but havnt been to a full on war before

I'm new-ish to Nerf too; I've found the Melbourne group to be friendly and welcoming -- you should be fine.

I will be there, but will need to leave early.

Get ready for some SM1.5k ownage.

Probably not. I'm assuming it's got a decent range, so you'll be sniping anyway, and you'll probably have a decent chance to shoot anyone before they get within range of a secondary anyway....

How tactical are these wars?
And out of a Maverick, Vulcan, Long-Shot, and Recon what do you think I should use?

It's pretty easy to get into the flow of the wars. Just show up with whatever you like. I'd recommend the longshot but if they are all unmodded then there's not a lot of difference.

We play to have fun, so just use whatever you like

Errrhmmm... not very.

Some people like to charge and shoot everything in sight (Maverick, Vulcan, Recon).

Others like to sit back, move in slowly, and snipe from a distance (LongShot, Recon).

We pick sides based on "you lot start over there and we'll start here", and the people on your team are usually strangers with differing levels of experience.

And out of a Maverick, Vulcan, Long-Shot, and Recon what do you think I should use?

What do you like to do? If I'm going to charge and run around a lot, I'll use the Alpha Trooper. Now that I have a modded Longshot, I might give sniping a go. If you can, bring them all and try out different styles to see what suits you.
