Post  oznerfnerd Wed May 25, 2011 2:24 pm

    Hi All,

    New spring kits are up:

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280684603887&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

These one's have been carefully measured so you don't have to trim out the inside of the stock mount to fit them, and the buffer is thin enough that you won't get jamming when cocking the blaster.

The lube is good stuff, teflon based and thin enough to allow the plunger to discharge freely.

There's more available than the listing, I've just got a limit on how many items I can sell in this new ebay account for one more month, then they'll free me up a bit.

    Cheers,

    Approximately 5-6 kilos.

That was fast Clunk, were you just lurking in a dark alley?

I could have gone heavier and did get some heavier guage samples made, but for all the creaking and groaning coming out of the plastic housings, I just didn't get any noticable improvement.

Heavier guage also started to contact the housing more, and would have required a bit of dremmeling, which not everyone has.

You'll get 50-70 feet out of this kit, depending on the model you have and how gentle you are when modding.

Informers blue snap cap darts are the go with this mod, if you are like me and can't be arsed making darts.

If you are going to buy a new one to mod, get an Alpha trooper.

I'll probably tack a youtube clip to that listing in the coming week.

    Cheers,

    No worries, and cheers.

    You got the right blaster.

May I suggest just a simple mod to begin with, so you can see how it goes.

Wiping out the plunger tube with kitchen paper, then pushing the adhesive buffer to the base of the tube with the plunger itself, THEN greasing the inside of the tube will give you a better contact.

If you wipe the O ring groove clean, fill it with that lube then put the O ring back in on top of it,you'll have lube in the right place for longer.

No need to go wrapping tape around the plunger at first, maybe just see how it goes with the basic mod.

Certainly not telling my father how to f#%k old mate, just sharing some tips.

Start claiming your combined post Clunk, before you pay.

If you've bought a couple of items, "request a total" in the checkout, so I can give you your discount.

I'll pack you some extras to cover it.

haha - yeh, always lurking. I already had the page open this morning, to get some more plunger buffers.

I've got 5 x AT's sitting here, BNIB, so I'll drop it in one of them. It should be interesting, as I'm hitting 68 feet average angled from the hip with just some e-tape spring spacer, AR's etc.

I might get a chance to look at it over the weekend, I'll let you know anyway.

Yeh, I did the combined postage on the brackets last time. In a bit of a hurry, as I start work in half an hour, wasn't really worried about the $1. But thanks anyway mate.

I'll try the methods you suggested, but will still probably reinforce the back of the plunger tube. Old habits and all that. Thanks for the tip.

Probably stupid of me to tell you to use moderation.

There's now 2 different thickness in buffers, I've sent you both.

Use the thin one's in your Alpha Trooper.

    Mate,

If I were going to come down to Brissy to shoot the crap out of the lot of you at one of your wars, I'd be packing a Longshot, a Stampede and an Alpha Trooper. (I might also sneak my quadded TS along).

If I were allowed only one blaster and was on a budget, it would be the AT.

You can get them for $23 at Target on the right day.

I'd take a couple of recons along to jam under my tyres in case I got bogged.

Not yet on the Longshot spring, but it's coming.

I'll go for the meanest my spring bloke will design for me there, and also have a large full face plunger buffer in the kit.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your purchases, which are packed and will be sent tonight/tomorrow.

Ebay user name 747300cw, if you are on here you need to get in touch about your address mate, as I've sent you 3 messages already, and will have to cancel your order tomorrow if I don't hear from you.

Don't want to, just the rules mate.

Sorry about my double post above, by the way.

I didn't actually think I'd done it, as it told me someone had posted while I was typing my reply, and I just hit the "oh, OK then" button.

    Back on topic...

My kit arrived yesterday, and I had 15 mins spare this morning, so I threw it in a new AT.

Removed AR's, sealed tube pin hole, taped under o-ring, plunger tube buffer installed, re-lubed o-ring, and added new spring.

Results were quite good, with an average of 63 feet angled at 20 degrees from the hip, using a variety of blue foam stingers and sili's. To put this in perspective, I achieved 68 feet with my last AT, same angle, same mods - stock spring with a spacer. Admittedly, I was firing in to a slight head-wind today, so I'd put both the spring set-ups on a par for range.

The advantage of OzNerfNerd's spring kit, is it's a lot quicker to install the spring than making a spring spacer out of pve/e-tape. I didn't need to dremel out any of the shell for it to work, which is what I had to do with my BT spring, and even then, it didn't cock consistently. The buffer is quite good, and is a perfect fit, and the lube seems really good too. Good enough, that I may have to see if I can't get some more!! haha

At the end of the day, reverse-plunger's still suck, but this kit certainly makes them half-respectable. I've always been rather fond of the AT's, and now I can get reasonable range, without too much hassle. The upgrade kit would be a very useful mod to any RP blaster, especialy any used for indoor wars. 15 mins, and I had the whole mod done, and blaster back together -you can't argue with that.

At some stage, I'll swap it out to the Recon and LongStrike, but that will be a few weeks away yet, due to some personal commitments.

Also, it looks like you could squeeze in a small spring spacer as well, giving even more range. I will also look in to this.

    Alexya helping me range test:

    Reverse Plunger Spring Kits Dscn0917

I just wanted to add that OzNerfNerd is very easy to deal with, and postage is extremely quick.

    Cheers Clunk,

As per my previous post, an easy 50 to a possible 70 feet is what you'll get, depending on the model and your style of modding.

And you're bang in the middle of that range with his mod.

Really, if you're looking for 100 feet, reverse plunger is not the way to go.

But I do have a soft spot for the AT, and NO spot for the recon.

I'm glad you noticed the fit in the housing, as several rounds of samples went into getting it perfect.

You might notice that one end is just a little tighter on the plunger tube than the other.

If you fit the looser end over the plunger tube you will get the best clearance of your housing, as the spring ID/OD will expand a little during compression.

This is a medium spring for this application, as I don't want plunger tubes blowing out everywhere due to my kit.

For the longshot, I'll be looking at doing something much more feral...

PS: Sweet little girl, by the way.

I've got 2 mongrel boys who are older, sneakier and good shots.

They like to ambush me with modded stampedes full of stinger darts while I'm trying to kick back.

Can someone try this Reverse Plunger Spring Kits in a Nerf Raider please?

Because we now know it work in the Nerf AT,I just want to know it will work in a Nerf raider before I buy the kit.

    It fits a raider.

I know this because I tried it in a raider before I said it.

If you read the listing on ebay, it specifically mentions it.

Give her time mate, she's already a bit too sneaky for her age. At least she's more interested in chewing the darts, than ambushing me with them.

@KingCam - I've got 2 Raider's in pieces, and that's how they'll remain until the day I die!! Stock, magwell and Drum are useful, the rest is crap.

It's not like these kits are expensive...

Got my kit today, very nicely packed. Keen to try it for sure.

Clunk - pretty sure this is the same lube i've been using. If you do decide to get some just ask and i'll dig up the details for you.

My wife thought it was pretty funny when she saw I'd had Super Lube delivered to the house - she wanted to know what I really get up to with my nerf buddies
