Modded Maverick Trigger Reliability Empty Modded Maverick Trigger Reliability

Post  Asylum Mon Jun 13, 2011 1:00 pm

    Good Afternoon All,

I've just completed a bunch of mods to my Maverick (hot glue and straws, AR removals, hot glue/straw in the plunger) but now, as Mr. Murphy so succinctly put it, whatever can, will go wrong. Once I re-assembled the gun and attempted a test fire, all it did was dry fire. And now it has a lovely habit of not rotating the barrel. Does anyone know any common mistakes a first time modder makes that would make this chain of events befell my new found love?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Peter.

You remembered to glue the clutch, right?

If so the problem is probably that the seal between the turret and the plunger is causing too much friction for it to rotate.

Yeh, if you haven't glued the clutch, it might not be locking in and pushing air through the barrel. The dry firing means that the plunger tube and the turret aren't connected, buddy.

Whip her apart and have a good look at every piece, figure out what it does. Then you'll see your problem, clear as day. (:

Sounds like something you would do to a dart.

@OP. Check this to see whether you assembled everything correctly.

    Deadspace reduction.

    http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5673

    Replace foam with hot glue.

I recall someone around here posting a similar deadspace reduction mod for recons and other reverse plungers.

    Edit: Here it is...

Didn't he say it was in the plunger rod?

Ok, so the old camera is performing on the side of 'not co-operating'.

Upon closer inspection, it was the plunger putting too much friction on
the barrel restricting it from rotating. BACK TO THE DREMEL!!!!

You really shouldn't have to glue the slip-clutch. All this does is cover-up the mistake you've made somewhere amidst your mods.

BTW - 23 Maverick's modded, and not one clutch glued.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

I've done 5 (nowhere near 23) and so far as I've seen, glueing the slip clutch just seems to make the trigger stiffer and seems to screw up the rotation. I glued the first one (with hot glue luckily), then got annoyed with it, removed the glue and it rotates fine. It's probably because I use hot glue, but the point is that glueing the slip clutch doesn't seem important to me, unless your Mav has trouble rotating.

Pretty much the point I was making. If you need to glue the clutch, there's a mech rotation issue that you haven't found yet. To me, it's the easy way out, but I have an inquisitive personality.

Also, if you relocate the trigger spring, it will feel alot stiffer, which works well for myself.

    cheers,

I don't know if it's some factory fault but my Mav did find it hard to rotate. Gluing the clutch seemed to work. I guess you have to try it out.

Yeh mate, there's obviously an exception to every rule. I was more so talking about having to glue the clutch after performing a mod.

If it's like that from factory, and gluing it makes it work, then good show!!

I agree Clunk, I've modded a few (NOT 23!!) and they've all worked fine without glueing the
    "slip clutch".

Meh, they're not my favourite blaster to mod, but I did a couple for myself. Then one for my mate's kid, then his friend, then his friend, etc etc.

It kind of snow-balled from there... I wish I didn't have to do everything 110%...

If you take you beloved apart you will notice on the plunger assembly (the whole thing) it has a little grove right near the front end. You need to make sure this is fitted on to the little ridge it fits over. Other wise the blaster will not seal properly and will only dry fire

I know this isn't a necro, but you should probably take a look at the 'date' of a thread before you post in it. It's usually likely that the owner of this thread has already solved the problem or given up on it.

Thanks for the advice though =).
