Turtle Wax + Brass Empty Turtle Wax + Brass

Post  interflop Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:36 am

I was looking around for something to polish my brass breech and found that turtle wax worked very well! I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but here are some pictures.

I think it's a pretty significant difference and it looks fantastic

I haven't completed the breech yet. I'm waiting on a 9/16" for the barrel since all of the stores around me are out of stock until next week. It feels like there's a lot less friction now which should make the sliding action really smooth. Waxing the inside of the barrel when I get it should also reduce dart friction. I was going mainly for aesthetics here since brass is usually dirty and oxidized.

Nice find man, it'll slide together heaps nicer all polished up, for sure.

I've been using the wire wheel on my dremel, but it's useless for inside the brass, which sucks.

The last breech I made I wet sanded it for a brushed metal look. This time I wanted a nice polished look to show off through the jam door opening.

Yeh, I'd be a bit concerned with the residue left over, as the wax won't polish in to the non-porous surface of the brass.

There's a good chance it's eventually going to gum up the slide movement of bolt to barrel, causing all sorts of hassle's.

I suppose that's why brasso was invented....

    Cheers,
