    Hai guys!

As promised in my first post, here's my custom Nite Finder, it took me a while and I don't think it went that well and can be improved a lot.
So I call it the Guardian Mk I

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0425

    Internals

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0426

    Tools -
    -Dremel
    -Screw Drivers
    -Sand paper

    Materials
    -epoxy
    -15mm pvc coupler
-lube (I got fix a tap now :D)
    -E-tape
    -Padding

I have lost some pictures due to corruption so yeah....anyway. First I minimized it, I just followed the line and sliced the light area off.

Secondly I cut the front part of the Plunger Tube, originally I tried to boil the glue away but it morphed the plunger tube, so then i had to go buy a new Nite Finder just for a new plunger tube. With the new one I just snapped it off.

Third Step, I sanded the inside of the 15mm coupler so it would nest onto the ring that the AR used to sit in.

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0427

Forth Step, next I epoxied it on, hot glued over it and e-taped over it

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0428

Fifth Step, I added e-tape under the o-ring and added an extra one, padded the plunger head and lubed the hell out of it

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0429

Sixth Step, This part troubled me a bit, I managed to get a C836 but I wasn't and still am not sure to put it in or not, it looks it would just kill it, so I just put a first gen NF spring in there for the moment while I find an alternative or use this as a learning experience for Mk II

My Nite Finder, Guardian Mk I Img_0430

Paint, I'm still using Citadel paints, I have over 50 paints but only like 9 work so my colour schemes aren't the best but I used; Bolt gun metal, Shining gold, Nauseating blue, Liche purple, Polished blue, Dark angel green and some old Blood red spray paint (I wish i had more :()

End result, great range, I can't really measure because my hallways too short. With the coupler at the front I lost a screw post and now the top is loose, it can't do an rscb or shoot 2 darts at once with a custom attachment (the T with the elbows) But as I said before this is learning.

Also what makes a great custom plunger tube for the NF?

Good stuff. The c836 spring does look like it would kill it, but as long as you reinforce a few things like the plunger rod and cut the spring down then you should be fine. (cut about 2 loops off, as mentioned in brads writeup.)

You can use a balloon pump for a replacement or a large syringe if you want to go less crazy. I went for 1 1/8 inch Polycarb tubing for my NF and it gets amazing ranges.

Nice writeup and well done on the NF. Wonder what mk 2 will be.

    Reinforce... c-836.... Nitefinder?

Those words don't usually need to go together.

    Good writeup though.

I have experienced using a c836 in a nitefinder and there is no reason why you have to cut anything down.

Yes you can actually use the 'full spring' in the NiteFinder but you HAVE to reinforce the plunger head or else it WILL snap. This has happened to me before. If you cut a few coils down, the plunger head is less prone to breaking. I've done this on my 2nd NiteFinder and it has survived several wars and still is kicking.

Wierd thing is when comparing my NF ranges with a cut down spring with phuonguyen's NF ranges with the full spring, I seem to be getting better ranges.

    Very nice, loving the paintjob.
How many 'rings' should you cut down off the C-836?

When I first discovered the C-836, I compared it to an old NF writeup of NH, which said that the 2 extra coils are useless and provide no extra 'ooomph' and only make it harder to cock.

With the Citadel Paints, do you have to sand down the blaster to paint it or just plop it right on?

I'd suggest a light sand at least. Regardless of the type of paint used, you'll still need to remove the mould-release agent for the paint to stick effectively.

You can get a blood red spray paint equivalent (not called the same, but the same colour, almost exactly) from Army Painter here. Not sure if they ship to Australia. You're looking for "Pure Red".

EDIT: Just poked around the Mind Games Melbourne web site, and they sell it for $25. Is there anything these guys don't sell?

Regarding the use of the C836 in the NiteFinder, if I don't reinforce the plunger rod with hot glue or a different way of reinforcement, will it break? Or is it neccassary, because I really dig the clean look of the stock plunger rod.

    Cheers.

It won't break unless you are putting stress on it sideways. E.g. Using bands on one side or bungee mod.

Reinforce with hot glue, gotta be joking. Without reinforcement, IT WILL BREAK. Best reinforcement is the screw, washer and bolt method. Never failed me and isn't noticeable at all, looks stock.

Actually Frankie. My Nitefinder has survived over 15 wars with a cut down c836 without any reinforcement. I've only had it break when I used the full length.

It may actually break if you're not using the bands evenly on both sides. It sounds very plausible. Depends on the strength too. As you know the plunger rod of the Nitefinder is hollow, not all of it though.

Fair enough then, any signs of stress? I suppose its a good sign for people unable to reinforce. When I once did this, the plunger head exploded after 5 shots. I guess it may vary on NF Gen, cause we've all seen the evolving plunger rods/heads over the last few years.

Zero signs of stress so far. Perhaps, when you cut down the spring did you place the 'flat side' of the spring on the plunger head or the cut down side?

My NiteFinder is probably 8months old.

Reason why hot glue isn't used as a 'reinforcement' method in 'reinforcing' certain parts of blasters is that it doesn't provide that much of a bond, used as a gap filler at times.. - For those who were wondering.
