Hey all, as my first post on I would like to do a nerf recon modification writeup(I have already done this modification).
Step 1.Cracking it open
I would reccomend having a white sheet or something to show up the screws, I always seem to lose them . There are 15 screws in total on the recon, you should be able to find them all.....If not they are here, here, here.....
Step 2. Modifications
a) First of all plug up the pinhole pressure release-?-with e-tape. It is located in the bolt just before the AR.
b)Second-spring compression-get some e-tape and wrap it around the plunger, cut it down until it is 1-1.5 cm in width and 3mm in-layered part-height. I would not stretch the spring as this is irreversible and is what screwed up my first recon.
c)Third AR removal. The most basic modification. You will need to seperate the bolt from the bolt sled grab a thin nail and a hammer. place the nail in the hole-on the top where the bolt and sled connect- on the bolt sled and hammer until the holding pin comes out the other side -once out- I used a tent peg and hammer it worked.....sort of. Simply place the implement being used to remove the AR down the barrel and drill, hammer etc, until a spring, stem, disc and landmine trigger type thing come out.this is what it will look like afterwards.
d)Air seal-know how you twist an elastic band over so it looks like an eight-you're basically just doubling up eg. two o-rings not one-well do this and put the o-ring back in place.(not sure if that makes sense.
e)Lubricating- put some Plastic safe lubricant on the plunger which will help it move faster. If you don't know what lubricant to use, read this thread on NerfHaven so you know what you should use.
f)most darts compatability-just trim with a hacksaw or craft knife the two flanges either side of bolt. next shave the pop up blocker plate so there is only 4 fifths of those two protruded lines that face the bolt. please note that micro darts will get jammed most often.
g)crap you dont need-Remove the jam door-but leave the pin in-,the clip lock, and trigger lock. In other words all bits marked in green.
h)lacky band-get the stock attachment there are two pins located at the connector at the top and bottom remove these with a hammer and nail-grab a lacky band and shove it down the top hole replace a pin and shove the other end down the other hole and replace pin #2.
3.Reassembly
Reverse step 1 and clip on step 2, h).(stock)
There you have it.
P.S. oh and roger i did read that but missed step 4 hehe woops
Edit : I did some range tests and that rubber band on the back decreases range by about 2 feet.
I was using unmodded streamlines angled at 20 degrees no barrel. Band on 475". Band off 517". Ive coloured Previous step 2 f) red because it weakened my bolt and caused it to break. Also Previous step 2 d) has been coloured red as my O-ring has snapped. Do not do these steps. Sorry for the un-reliable mod guide.
Roger Explosion edit: Rewrote the step about lubrication, to avoid confusion.
