Automatic Rayven anyone?
Here's my automatic rayven made this arvo after a brainstorm session. Excuse the bad looks as this is still my prototype. Fires well, no tested rpm, ranges etc yet. Wait till Mk2 with my metal/nylon parts etc...

Wow. That could be pretty good. If you get it running good I might have to get you to commission one for me. It would be a good side arm

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Yeah still in testing phase using parts from a tommy 20 and bits and levers of other nerf guns. I'm getting my housemate to machine parts of my design out of nylon and metal for more reliability and possibly more voltage? Adding a constant 24v power supply controlled variable dc/dc converter dropping down to around 18v which will be adjustable on the fly for variable rate of fire and main drive motor speed(controlled by voltage fed to motors). Thinking Mk2 will take about a month or two to finish but ill have this one on the battlefield soon after I decide on what gun to add on to the back to fill in the spaces. Any ideas?

Mate that's awesome, truly inventive, good job. If you can get this working as in able to make more I'm sure you'll have a lot of commissions up your alley (If you plan to) otherwise you could put up a guide and get some recognition, nice job mate!

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
I may very well need some cheap tommy 20 parts because not too sure how the motor will hold up to the extra voltage. Might do a few commissions but I'll try to put a guide up with specs once mk2 or 3 is done because I have a little work to do to make it perfect. Also I need to build another to do a write up because I can't remember exactly how I got to where I am as it was a lot of dremilling, soldering, trial and error

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Is it worth spending my hard-earned cash on a Rayven??
I mean, apart from the obsessive collective issues that I have, is there enough fun factor in a Rayven for me to warrant buying one now instead of waiting for the price to come down??
Cheers,

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
They're only $34 at kmart or target atm so I think they're worth that for the fun factor. But I might be a bit biased as I am starting to be an obsessive collector. But from a modding point of view, a nice easy to work on gun, plenty of free space and with 18v from 2 9v batteries or 12v from my solar at home it has decent ranges and the automatic system I've rigged up gives it decent rof (well faster than my modded stampede). Another added benefit I didn't realise until more testing this morning is it should have any feeding/jamming issues from the magazine once ROF is dialed in correctly as it just skips a round if the mag hasn't fed it yet

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Thanks for the info. I'll take that in to consideration.
My nearest BigW is 450km round trip, so with P&H, I'll be looking at around $45. I probably should've mentioned that for the newer member's who don't know me too well.
Cheers,

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Ah fair enough well I enjoy them not too sure how they stack up against other guns as I haven't done many high powered blasters. But next HvZ battle I will be invincible

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
I reckon this blaster would be awesome if the same set-up as a stampede could fit into the shell. That would be awesome then. It would be the nerf equivalent of the P90

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Now with adjustable ROF via DC/DC Controller. Do you have a spare stampede parts to donate to the cause? Also dont think it would fire faster than this as my design negates all the feeding issues with the stampede once you get to a high ROF. Although it probably would have longer range tho

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Seriously, do you think you'd need faster ROF than a Stampede? lol
If you can't hit your target with 4.7 rounds/second, maybe it's time to find a new sport... haha
Maybe put a wtb request in for a Stampede, and see how you get on. Or, just buy one, and sell off the clips. You'll end up only paying about $20 for the actual blaster.

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Hmm might do that I could justify $20 for the parts. Yeah I know super high ROF is not needed but I just love pushing the limits of what's possible :). I think I'll use it in next weeks battle as a cqb weapon and in HvZ because there's no chance can I miss then. What are the fire rates and ranges on a modified stampede anyway?

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Using 16.8v, I get approx 4.7 rounds/sec out of a Stampede, with range of around 80ft average, fired from the hip.
That's using a 10kg spring. I know Littlebro gets slightly higher ranges, as he also uses the stock Stampede spring as well. I'd assume his ROF would be fairly similar.
Yeh, $20 for parts isn't too bad at the end of the day!! But, depending on what parts you're chasing, you might be able to pick one up a lot cheaper off on of the Brissy guys maybe...

Sorry if I'm bugging you but have you ran into any problems with the magazine not feeding fast enough? And if so, how did you resolve them?

I've never had any feeding issues. I've used 18-rd clips, and 35-rd drum, and no problems with either of them, but I've also only ever used blue foam...

Or you could do what I do sometime, Put stuff on lay-buy for 2 month.

You can buy my stampede I have just acquired. Or just the internals to save on postage

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
How much for the stampede? Just finished the action and new motor on MK2 XM1. Works amazingly, the only problem is the 1100 rpm ROF at 6v. Need to drop the voltage to achieve a fire rate the mags can feed at. But if the parts hold up at 1100rpm I'm assuming they will survive the lower ROF. Here's hoping...

Re: Automatic Rayven anyone?
Consider modifying the magazine with a stronger spring. I know some people in the states have had success with constant force springs, but it might even be as simple as doubling up or doing a ghetto rubber band rig.
