Urban Taggers vs Hasbro Lawyers

I'm honestly a little surprised I couldn't find any topics about this, BUT! I thought it would be prudent to post this for anyone who has not been in the current Nerf political loop regarding Urban Tagger's blog to know about this:

Sure, it's a lot of reading (TL;DR warning for the lazy ones out there :P) and I guess this is probably redundant due to most people who do follow UT would know all about this already. BUT! I just thought I'd put it here both to show my support for UT & spread the info out there to those who didn't know, & since I feel it is an important side of Nerf/Hasbro that should be known (for the people who do care about this sort of thing).

(Note to moderators: if there was already a thread about this in progress that I somehow missed, OR if for some reason no-one wants this to be posted, then by all means delete this thread, sorry! :x)

NERF'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT

We appreciate the opportunity to provide the following statement concerning Hasbro’s investigation into “leaked” IP information regarding its NERF brand products. As with anything, there are two sides to every story. While we cannot comment on the details of any ongoing investigation, Hasbro takes all circumstances of its stolen and leaked IP very seriously and will continue to investigate sources of unauthorized information and products as it relates to its brands. We would like to clarify one of the inaccuracies that has been reported. While a local Hasbro Australia marketing team did reach out to the Urban Taggers website to engage in promotional activity for which it required its address, it was completely unrelated to the confidential global investigation being conducted on Hasbro’s behalf by independent investigators looking into sources of leaked IP information. Hasbro greatly values and appreciates its fan communities and is very proud of its strong relationships with many bloggers and sites that cover our brands and products.

For those of you too lazy to read it, essentially, the pinpoint sight offer was legit, but it happened to coincide with an independent investigation by Hasbro's legal representatives. These investigators are not a part of Hasbro, so there is no basis for conspiracy here.

Whilst I'm attempting to stay out of this issue, I have to agree with you mate. It does appear to be poor/coincidental timing.

I have personally strayed away from making a decision on the basis that there has not been enough information released to make a logical and comprehensive decision.

I could go into a long winded "WHY"but most of you won' t read it. To make it simple they were not after UT just the person that leaked they product. This is how an investigation works you start on the out work you way in till all information point at a single answer.
Remember if they dont protect they products you buy we wont have a company to buy from.

Yep, the exact answer I've been using elsewhere. A lot of this has been blown out of proportion.
The legal team arriving unannounced was a bit unprofessional, but that's how they operate, so no qualms there.

... I don't buy it. It doesn't sound like a coincidence to me. Only after UT supplied an address did the lawyers send a letter ...to that address.
How else did the lawyers discover his address if not given by the Nerf promotional representative?
If they had discovered it on their own, how is that they didn't know about ebay/TaoBao/Google or the internet?

It sounds like the representative is just trying to save face by 'passing' the buck. He has the address, why not just send the promotional material?

...Just like any gangster movie, the boss never does the dirty work himself. He hires a hitman from outside the family ~ Plausible deniabillity.

The 'friendly' post-communication (timely, I might add) is just a sly way of saying, "Did you get the message?..!!"

He wasn't in posession of an illegal product, he had no products at all, he simply found an image on the chinese version of eBay...

I'm not challenging the legal/illegal issue, I'm contesting that the Hasbro promotional representative and the 'independent' Hasbro legal investigative team were not in communication with each other and that this was not a joint effort as Hasbro claims. It clearly was in my opinion.

UT has complied with their demands and cooperated. Hasbro should just fess up and admit that this was a ploy to get UT to cease and desist. They should also make it clear to it's customers/fans that this is how they deal with their issues. If they do, I'm fine with that. Instead they're trying to save face by claiming that they had no idea of the actions or intent of their own legal department.

If they truly were two separate entities working independently of one an other, where are the promotional PinPoint sights?

I've tried to mostly stay out of it. There's a whole shit fight going on about it in the Canberra group at the moment but I'm fairly indifferent about the whole thing. If everything Pocket said was legit, Hasbro were dicks. If everything Hasbro said was legit, Pocket was somewhat of a dick and Hasbro then reacted like dicks. Either way, everyone's a dick; pretty well business as normal then.

All in all, Pocket is a cool guy who I respect. I know I've got stuff ahead of release date directly because of him. If he decides to keep blogging, I'm sure he'll do fine (probably even gain a bunch of followers in the process).
