    Rail Mounts? Empty Rail Mounts?

Post  philmydang Fri Sep 11, 2009 11:27 am

I'm looking to attach a red dot sight onto my nerf recon. However I'm quite confused with the terminology - Dovetail/weaver mounts? 10mm or 20mm?
I've seen people mount proper scopes on nerf guns so I know this can be done. Question is how?

Ok I happen to be a shooter, if you have a laser sight that fits picatiny rails you should be able to fit it on the "tactical rail" with out much fuss.

I was under the impression that most (if not all) scopes could fit on picatinny rails - I could be wrong.

If anyone has successfully mounted a scope/sight on their nerf gun please share your experience

    Rail Mounts? P9111011

    Step one
Take your sight and loosen it like so
Rail Mounts? P9111112 Note cant really see but you should know how to loosen it.

    Step 2
Take sight put ontop of "tactical rail" and tighten so it looks like this(dont have pic of tightening or adding be have one of after)
    Rail Mounts? P9111113

Step 3 turn on sight (or look though it if it doesnt turn on)
    Rail Mounts? P9111114

According to the book future weapons by Kevin Dockery(2007, the picatinny rail is a slightly moddified weaver rail.
This action was repeated at Picatinny Arsenal in 1982 when a marine officer and an arsenal engineer machined off the handle from the upper reciever of an M16A1. On the flat surface that was created on the upper reciever, the men secured a commercial Weaver teloscopic sight rail. The weapon could now accept a larg number of optical sights as long as they could be mounted on a weaver rail.

It also says. The general idea of the weaver rail was taken by the engineers at Picatinny and modified to better suit military applications.

I'm not to sure what it means "modified to better suit military applications" But there you have it.

This is the weapon that was use, The handle is the arch like thing on the top.

The "handle" is acually the iron sight of a m16 but is used as a handle so by cutting off the iron sight the no longer have a proper iron sight.

I know, rear Iron sight/ handle. But most M4s/car-15s dont have the handle/sight.

A few points to remember kids,

-For the best results, sticky tape an empty toilet-roll on the top of your nerf gun.

-If you NEED a scope on your nerf gun, you aren't playing nerf.

-Either that or you're using an uber-powerful home-made or titan

    -Or you're just an idiot.

I don't 'play' nerf, I just happen to enjoy modifying them and improving their asthetics. fyi you can buy a red dot scope for the same price (or less) than actual nerf accessories. I happen to think they look better as well.

with abit of handywork i've managed to attach scope with 3/8inch (9-12mm) weaver mounts onto my recon. I thought a 20mm mount would be too large but it seems that they can attach also. Will post pics soon
