Post  oznerfnerd Tue May 17, 2011 9:07 am

    Hi All,

No sales pitch yet, as this is still a work in progress.

Just got the laser cutting and bending part done, still looking at nylon bushes, etc.

It's just sitting on a couple of Vulcan cocking levers at the moment, but works nicely.

    Longshot Pump Action bracket Dscn1211

    Longshot Pump Action bracket Dscn1213

    Longshot Pump Action bracket Dscn1214

It's only just sitting there, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to find "off the shelf" nylon bushes that do what I want, but I'll work out something.

As I've told a couple of members about it, who have susequently told LOTS of members (who have started PM'ing me), I thought I'd better show some progress pics.

It's all done in 3mm ally, and the arms are rock solid.

It would work with screws straight through it, but I'd prefer some nylon bushes that can be lubricated and replaced when worn.

The action is beautiful, and it's nice and light too.

I've tried to go for a bit of a "look" as well as functionality.

    Hope you like it.

    Cheers,
    Mozart

Good stuff, man! Hope they didn't charge much for the bending, like I said, it's a simple task.

Just from a perspective buyer point of view, it's a little chunky for me. If you were to also produce a version that was internal, I would be all over it! Perhaps one that used the front gun integration, as I've seen around, for the shotgun-like grip.

    Cheers,

Bending is not as much of an issue as the laser cutting. That cost's.

I like the chunky look, it gives it a bit of a "halo" style that might go well with a custom paint job.

It's certainly not heavy, and with the 45 deg bends it sits nicely in the palm.

I looked at the internal pump, but didn't like the idea of a flimsier rod loading my boltsled in all the wrong ways.

My designs are for durability first, with aesthetics always a consideration.

It certainly makes the LS a contender for mid/long range battles, as follow up shots are easier while still aiming at the same spot.

Nice longshot it looks great but the cocking mechanism look a bit dodgy because you don't have grip for it,might have to put some rubber or foam or whatever works so you can grip it properly instead of sliding off.Apart from that look cool, were you trying to make like an pump-action shotgun feel to it??-ShadowSnipers.

Love it. I'll be grabbing one at least for sure.

It will be easy enough for people to add their own grip to it if they prefer

@ the 2 young snipers - The first post says it's a work in progress. The guy has had these laser-cut and professionally folded - do you really think he'd go to all that effort, and not come up with an ergonomic grip...

OzNerfNerd - really looking forward to this mate. It looks great!!

Seriously, with that much surface area to grip onto, you'd have to stick your hand in a bucket of grease to slip off it. I don't think there would be a single problem with slipping off it. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Or you'd have to have a 25kg spring in your LS or something.

    Actually,

I hadn't got to thinking about grip surface, as I've been focused on angles, clearances and bushing to slide it on.

I used 45 deg angles because it sits very well in the palm of you hand.

It is still a work in progress, and I want it to be strong as possible first.

Since I posted, I have had a reply about a 2 piece nylon bush that may suit well.

But enough of you have raised the point, so when I get to the "pimping it out" stage, I'll look into it.

Maybe some adhesive boat deck buttons or stripes......

    That looks very nice!

I've been looking into getting a shotgun grip for my LS but I need one that works with a LSFG integrated LS.

I might just have to make my own, you've given my the inspiration to get off my butt and make one

For the grip surface, you could use grips designed for sports bats/racquets/etc such as those designed for tennis racquets because of fairly obvious reasons - they're designed to be gripped quite well. There are several different types to accommodate for different people as well.

The best thing to do would get one of those cheap $1 tennis racquets or cricket bats and take off the grip. Cut it in half and use some epoxy to glue it over the curves of the grip. Should be no problem then.

Another option might be to have a tab hanging down from the back of the grip like in the Alpha Trooper? You've probably designed it so that the brackets tessellate to reduce waste when laser cutting, but if there's a bit of space left over I think it'd be a good option.

How much did the laser cutting cost you? Fair enough if you don't want to post here. Sling me a pm I'm interested in the costs as I have some projects in mind that only work with precision cutting.

Does anybody on here work/know someone who works for a conveyor-belting company?

The diamond pattern pulley lagging these company's use would be ideal for a grip..

Or maybe just cover the main areas with some insulation rubber. I think the grip would be fine, but being alu it has the potential to get rather hot if left in the sun, so some type of insulation would be a bonus.

Still 2-3 weeks out before listing.

Psyyka, it's done through a business and you'll be lucky to get anyone to talk to you for a one off. There is an expensive setup fee for new jobs.

Clunk, I'll find something good, I'm just not up to that bit yet but am looking at it.

I won't list it till I'm happy with it.

    Cheers all.

Not much I hope, as it will be spaced away from the plastic on nylon bushes.

I have ordered samples of the type of bolts I hope to use.

I have purchased a solution for the possible slipping issue, which I hope to have soon.

So there should be a couple of completed prototype photos up soon(ish).

For my pump action LS I lined the inside of the arms with dart tag vest material (any other would do) works well. Could be used here too.

No offence meant, but I hope to build something less "ghetto" and more of an engineered product.

Nylon bushes can be lubricated with anything, and replaced when they eventually wear out.

Anyway to solve the scratching of the shell, just insert a washer at the priming point.

Also tennis grips for a Shogun grip is a No no. It has a smooth surface meant for wrapping not glueing, and also you would have to change it regularly, as it gets dirty easily and absorbs too much sweat. I change my grip on my racquet every 2-3 months due to the sweat.

Another point to be taken into consideration is whether your hand would get jammed up with a raiders drum. That one of the main disadvantages to MOST shotgun grips.

Why not just wear a glove? That'll give you the friction you need... also when you hand hits the drum it won't hurt (as much)

Well obviously you'd buy proper gloves

I've got hand wraps from rebel. They're $10 or something. I played a whole day of paintball in them and I was fine. They protected my hands too

Also, I'd imagine 18 drums would be bareable. 35's... well that's another story.

If you need a Raider drum on a LS, you're doing something wrong!!

Gym gloves would be ideal - designed to handle sweat etc.

Anti-friction/nylon tape would be a good solution to any scratching of the blaster, that can't be remedied by nylon spacers.
