    Stampede troubles Empty Stampede troubles

    Post  Stand_Defiant Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:10 pm

Hey Guys, been on this forum now for a liitle while but this is my first post.

I have recently purchased and modded a stampede, I have done the voltage upgrade and all the other standard mods.
I thought I did everything correctly but somewhere something isn't right and I can't figure it out. When I pull the trigger the gun stays on even after I let go of the trigger. I have to turn it off for it to stop.
I assume it's a wiring problem somewhere but I haven't touched any of the internal wires, I've just connected the wires from the 4xAA battery holder to the terminals on the original battery sled.

Has this happened to anyone before or does anyone know how I can fix this problem.

Another quick question about my stampede, now that I have done the battery upgrade and everything else, my stock streamline darts tend to get jammed everytime I use it, Is this because it's more powerful and the stock darts are too soft or is it something else??

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Mark

Ah, I had the EXACT same problem. It's the catch, you've got it the wrong way around.

Maybe a *little* more elaboration will help him, see this blog post from SGNerf HERE, check that spring and whether it's out of place and push it back in if it is. I bought a stampede modkit from SGNerf direct and he provided a stronger catch spring, fixing the problem completely.

Well it's should be the catch, I assumed he had the srping in since it's quite visible.

The most common problems are as listed above - either the plunger catch installed in reverse (which really doesn't need any elaboration, there's only 1 catch, and it can only go in 1 of 2 ways), or too weak of return spring.

Although, I know for a fact that Servulus has never had issues using his 13kg spring, with stock return spring.

I'd imagine it would be very hard to mod the stock return spring because of the pieces in the way. With a catch spring, i'm just using a bic pen spring nested with the original. Very decent.

We may have terminology confused, I'm referring to the smaller spring hidden underneath the plunger tube. SgNerf and BT include the beefier spring in their Stampede kits. It takes all of about 3 mins to install.

i'm talking about this spring. I just think it'll be hard because your going to have to bend the spring to fit it on to the bolt.

Nope, not the spring I'm talking about. I'm not at home, so I can't take a photo, but I'm sure you'll know of the one I'm referring to.

Also, if you really wanted to upgrade the spring that you've displayed, you could just twist it on to the bolt, similar to how I upgraded the spring in my RFSG mod.

Hey guys, Thanks heaps for all the advice.
I checked the return spring and it was fine and I thought I had the catch in the right place but apparently not!
I've put it all back together now and in the right way and it works fine, no more "bump" firing!!

I think that catch has caught many people out... (pun intended), myself included.

Good to hear that you've got it sorted.

Well I thought I had fixed it but It's now bump firing again.
I guess that means I'm gonna have to pull it apart and check the spring again, I might try adding another spring to give it more strength and see if that helps!
Could there be anything else that would cause this ie if I wired it wrong??

    Cheers guys

I've seen a fix on NerfSG Forums that stops the return spring from folding over.

You really can't wire it up wrong if it's been working for you already. Unless you've got a cold solder joint...

So I've fiddled around with it again and it's firing a lot better still "bump" fires a bit but it's not as bad as before!
I also decided to see what sort of range i was getting and after a couple of 18 dart rounds i was getting an average of 24 metres and the furthest dart landed just over 30 metres!

ha, sorry I'll be a little more specific. I checked the return spring and that was fine, never had a problem with that. So I added another stronger, stiffer spring on to the catch, which seems to have helped! I think the spring i used was a trigger spring off another nerf gun, not sure but it's better than the one that was on there!
