is it going to get used a lot? if so you might want to consider not painting the grips and choosing other colours to match.
if you're using it in a nerf war, you might want to consider the environments you're using it in and what role you're doing with it. if you in a grassy or tree-filled area, how about some kind of green camo? or urban, try grey camo. or, maybe you DO want to get seen, to draw attention and distract, so bright colours are the go.
OR, if you're a model painter try thinking of the style (steampunk, sci-fi, realistic/mil-sim) and look for ideas, and try:
Johnson Arms
or
girly gamer's blog

All jokes aside,
I've never really done any painting, as I'm more into working with the internals, but if I was too I'd have a look at girlygamers stuff.
I really like the look of that worn, brushed metal look. Like the halo guns.

Re: Best paint colour.?
Since you're in Vic, you are going to want to avoid any camo paintjob if you want to use it at wars, otherwise the organisers will not let you use it.
Otherwise, go for a vibrant or obviously toy colour scheme.

Re: Best paint colour.?
Any colour that's not military colours or black matte. Should be bright and keep the orange bits.
This isn't really a 'legit' question because none of us can SUGGEST since everybody has a different favourite colour. Please avoid asking questions such as this. This includes the "What blaster is better" question.
Thanks.

does tan (as in desert camo colour) and black count as military colours even if they're not in a camo pattern?

Re: Best paint colour.?
Yeah, they count too. Military colours being any colour having to do with the blaster, or uniform. That's just the rules for the Brisbane Wars I host though.

Are these kinds of rules fairly common? I do realise that one has to stay within the bounds of the law as it pertains to "imitation firearms" <check with your States police Firearms branch as definitions vary>; but law aside, why the ban on "military colours"?
Tangent: I have used a blue ink/satin clear polyurethane mix over Citadel Black undercoat to give a relatively effective blued steel look on previous mod efforts...

fair enough, I wasn't too sure so I thought I'd better ask. It wouldn't be much fun if we all had mil-sim coloured blasters and someone called the police freaking out about terrorists in the park, sounds stupid but it happens.

Re: Best paint colour.?
Yeah these rules are fairly common. Most states support 'no black matte' blasters. Although I've further reinforced for the wars I host no military colours.
You can dress up in military garments if you like, because most of the public think you're 'crazy' when carrying brightly coloured blasters. Well that's the rules I stand by for all the wars.
Also if it's too 'dark', I won't allow it to be used either.
Metalic paint jobs are in the grey area for me at the moment, but most likely will be banned too, unless it's like metallic pink.

That's easy... anything that doesn't cause your blaster to be confused with a real (or imitation) firearm, so essentially black, silver, metallic OR military/camouflaged themes should be avoided...
Why you ask?
