Re: which paint?
Cheapest spray you can find.
Paint job quality is predominantly determined by the prep work, not the brand.

Re: which paint?
I love Vinyl paint; scratch resistant and dries very quickly.

Yeah you used hot water and soap to clean up after sanding.

@Acerised
Hoping you'll see this, you linked to SupaCheap vinyl paints and said you love using them. I hope you don't mind me picking your brain for a moment, what brand? I bought different vinyl paint brands from SupaCheap and another car store, tested them all and had zero luck with any of them.
TIA

Re: which paint?
Hi Acerised,
thanks for taking the time, really appreciate it as this has been an ongoing battle for me. Okay, that is not one of the brands I bought, so I might have to give that a go. The ones I bought I tested on a couple of different plastic types, did all the usual prep, long drying times between coats etc, everything by the book. Expected to see a semi scratch-resistant base coat (since it was alluded to that vinyl paints actually adhere to the surface, but also soak in to a degree), what I got on the non Nerf blaster was literal flaking off as soon as I took a fingernail to it. On the Nerf I just got a basic black coat, not as good as regular rattles that was only as scratch resistant as those also.
I'll try and grab dupli-color this weekend and give it a try

Re: which paint?
That's weird. This can i got dried very fast between coasts, under 15 mins. I did the normal prep work; sand, wash.. etc. I waited 24 hours after the last final coat to ensure the paint was dry and so scratch resistant. I also added two small light clear coats to avoid scuff marks on the white. I used vinyl paint as the pump action would not scrap the paint off and so it doesn't, i also added a little bit of lube aswell. I hope this helps.

Re: which paint?
Ang,
I've had exactly the same results with vinyl dye - very hit 'n miss with different brands. I've given up on them as a reliable alternative to normal enamel:
*Only acrylic paint seems to bond to the dye properly - enamel just never seems to cure..
*You still have to do the same prep work as using enamel or acrylic paints.
*Out here, I can buy 6 to 8 cans of enamel for the same price as one big can of dye.
Cheers,

Re: which paint?
Hey Clunk
Yeah sounds like we both had the same experience and paying $20 for one can, compared to the usual $4 or so isn't great. I'll try and grab the dupli-color this weekend and let you know how that one goes.
