The mega missile is a strange little weapon. Its like a Big Blast pistol, And just like its big brother, it has a real kick to it.
I'm going to split this mod up into a few sections, pertaning to modifications of diffrent areas.
Coupler addition
The basic part of this mod. Adding a 15mm Coupler will let you use diffrent barrels for shooting Stefans.
You will need:
15mm coupler
Tools:
Screwdriver
Texta
Hacksaw
Something to cut the case with.
Before you open it. Take a 15mm PVC coupler and slide it over the barrel.
Then trace around it with a texta. This will come in real handy soon.
Now remove all the screws on the main body, but don't bother with the ones on the pump handle.
Just one last thing before we get 'er open. this little orange cap. Pry that off. I McGyver'ed it off with my Swiss Army knife and some brute force. Depending on how clean it comes off, you can put it back on when you reassemble.
Ok, now we are inside. Looks very simmilar to a big blast, but smaller.
Take out the main part of the internals. Then use a hacksaw to cut the Orange barrel right off. Cut right along the seam along the black part
Like so
Now take your 15mm PVC coupler and we need to cut it in half. The half way point is right where this little notch is.
I got this coupler from Mitre 10. The ones there are much better than the ones at Bunnings. Its slightly softer so the PVC pipe sits in there nice and tight.
The eaisest way to get cut a coupler in half is to use a Pipe Cutter most of the way, then finish the job with a Hacksaw. Couplers are quite thick, so it will take an eternety to cut through it with just a pipe cutter. and using the pipe cutter helps get the cut as straight as possile. The straighter the cut the straighter your barrel will sit on. Meaning much more accuracy.
And there we go. The point of cutting it in half is to reduce Dead space. and also you get 2 uses in one. Perfect in these recessionary times.
Now glue it where the barrel used to be. I used hot glue because i was lazy, but I'd reccomend Epoxy glue if you have the patience.
make sure the glue joint is nice and clean, becasue thats exactly where the shell of the gun sits.
Now remember that circle we traced. we need to cut the shell down to that line so the coulper will fit. I used my 3 part strike team of Wire cutters, Swiss army knife and Half round file. But you could also use a dremel if your some kind of fancy pants.
Now put it back toghether and let the fun begin.
Now the results:
I used my big blasts 12 inch long barrel and it shot about 100 feet flat. Just like a big blast.
Pump Overhaul
The Stock pump on the Mega Missile sucks big time. It has a tiny stroke and takes about 20 pumps to fill the tank. We are going to change that.
You will need:
A Big blast, or a tube which the pump will work in. ( I belive 25mm PVC will do the job)
16mm Aluminium rod
Plenty of Epoxy putty
Tools:
The same as above mod, Plus:
Vice
Pipe cutter (can use hacksaw if you don't have one)
you will need to cut the pump tubes off the Mega missile and Big blast. If you have a tube which can fit the pump, cut some of that to your desired length.
Cut down the the Mega missiles pump. cutting off the handle and the pump head. Follow the red lines i drew.
Now here come the tricky bit.
Take a screw from the case. Cover the area around the hole with Epoxy putty. then push the screw through the hole and then wedge it down in a vice while it dries. then add more epoxy putty over the top for strength.
So what the hell does that do. well it all comes down to what is said inThis thread. So basicaly I'm tightning the spring behind the Over pressure valve, meaning that the mega missile will now work at a higher pressure, but still has a saftey so it dosen't explode. This method is a ton better that plugging the pump like a n00b.
Now cut a piece of aluminium tube to match the size of the pump tube. This tube also works as a fantastic barrel material for stefans.
Stick all the pieces togheter with Epoxy putty. making sure the joint on the pump tube is airtight.
Use the old mega missile pump tube to mark where to bore out so the new pump can fit.
Then cut it out.
Trigger reinforcement
The trigger, with all the aditional pressure is going to come under some stress. So it needs strengthning.
Basically, cover the area with Epoxy putty. when its still wet, push the trigger into where it ususaly sits and slide it back and foward a few times so it will fit when it dries. Doing this not only makes the trigger last longer, but it also stops it pulling upwards on the air tanks firing pin. If the pin bends too much it can break the air tank.
Verdict
here it is completed
I haven't tested its maximum range, but I assume it can go above 100 feet. It's quite difficult to pull the trigger with all the extra pressure in the air tank.
