The Stampede Equinox Empty The Stampede Equinox

Post  Calico Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:45 pm

Well after what has seemed like forever, I'm finally on the home stretch with my latest gun, the Stampede Equinox. A little back ground notes for those of you who are interested in cosmetic mods. I have been into the Steampunk feel and look for a very long time and have been itching to do one since I made the as-20 (which will be getting a revamp so stay tuned.) I purchased a longshot which i didn't get the vibe from, so a simple military style paint job is all it got, fairly boring. I then when out and got the Stampede. Bar a few, ISSUES, the gun is nice, with an 11kg spring, LIPO battery mod and A/R mod it shoots alot better. After messing about with it I decided this was the gun that was going to be my Steampunk monster. I was thinking hand made brass fitting, copper wire, blast plates, liquid cooling and some pulsing vacuum tubes all on one gun. So after many many hours with my blow torch, paint brushes, acrylic tubing and still only 90% complete I bring you..... THE EQUINOX.

Well thats just a little bit of it, I'm happy with it to let you all see it now, I'll post some more "In the makings" later as well as a small video of the vacuum tubes pulsing as well, you can see the blue in the base of them in one of the pictures above. Anyhow, let me know what you think.

I'm not a fan of steam punk style blasters but I can appreciate the level of artistic work that went into it.

Good job, especially with those blue tubes. It's not everyday you see things like this on the forum.

Yeah i was going for big and chunky, kind a dis-organised look. The tubes are full of blue water too.

    i agree with melbnerf

it does look good. but kind of clustered when you look at it from the side.

i do appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this. brass work can get really annoying sometimes.

Yeah it does, I sent a photo to my dad, he though it was a crayfish. LMAO. TBH, the bottle I did want to change but it took 3 weeks to fab up the stands after work so they stayed. I did have a better idea for them but I couldn't bend the brass at home.

But hey, it's steampunk, there's no rule as to how extravagent you can go anyway

WOW, that thing is a monster! I note as well that it seems a little bit busy out of context, but with the right costume it could really pull together nicely. How sturdy are the hang-off parts? Can you tote it around without things snapping off?

Whoa.. that thing is a monster! Like Akimbo said "it's steampunk, there's no rule as to how extravagant you can go anyway". Love the tubes, I made a True Blood "V" blaster the week before last (non Nerf) and it features a bottle of red "V" in much the same way you've done the blue.

Thinking about how much work has gone into the Stampede Equinox, I say bravo! Great job.

Wow! I can't even imagine how many hours mist'be gone into this. Good on you for sticking with it.

A video panning around it with tubes pulsing would be cool to see.

EDIT: you should definitely enter this in the mod comp.

Ha mixed reactions, I love it! Yes it's a very unauthodox as far as traditional steampunk guns go, it's sort of half electro space gun too I guess. Sadavi, it's fairly sturdy, you can swing it about abit but it's not a battle gun that's for sure. The cooling tubes are to busy I had a Plan for something different but it didn't work to well, looking back I would left the screw caps off as they serve no purpose now.

That... that is spectacularly awesome. The single most intense 'Pede I've ever seen. Words cannot describe the sheer awesome that thing invokes.

    Bravo, sir, bravo.

    Yes!

Like the original "Flash Gordon" movie!

That would go off with a bit of "Queen" blasting in the background, and some B grade effect laser beams.

My apologies to the younger viewers, please refer to Google to find out WTF I'm referring to.

    That looks great!
It re-minds me of something from fallout and the likes... Although it is almost a bit too packed to be practical in a war.

Great work and keep it coming!!!

Honestly, this thing looks awesome. A bit over the top but still awesome. Incredible amount of work had to be put into it to make it this good.

Congratulations for this great piece of art. It is honestly great to look at from my point of view.

Great work Calico, well done, all you need now is an airbrush. That blaster airbrushed will just look insane.

But loving the SteamPunk look.. :))
