    Project Marauder Picture1

This is a prototype I have been working on the past few weeks.

The aim is to create a fully automatic Recon.

It is still in its design stages, but i thought i would share the build process as it goes,
to make it easier to see how it was designed and built.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW I PLAN ON MAKING IT FULLY AUTOMATIC.

Below is a valve I have drawn up. It is the main part that creates the automation.

The basic concept is that it releases a given amount of air,
then draws in the next round on the return stroke.

It has a similar operation to a Paintball marker, but then, its also nothing like one.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DESIGNING THE VALVE.

    Project Marauder Sketch1

Above is the first drawing i did to get a good idea of how its going to work.

Basically, its like a piston in a cylinder.
As it cycles through, it opens a port to let pressure in,
then on its way back up, it closes that port, and opens another,
to let the pressure out, propelling the dart.

In its first stage(Primed), the area below the piston is filled with compressed air.
A bleed valve at the bottom is opened to release a bit of pressure.
A spring above the piston, pushes down on top of the piston.
As the piston goes down, a port is uncovered, to let the air into the bolt.
When the piston reaches the bottom, it covers the bleed port, and open the supply port.
The compressed air then enters the cavity below the piston, pushing it back up.
Returning the valve to its primed state.

    Then the process starts again.

This alone doesnt make it full-auto. Another port near the top goes to a ram on the bolt rail.
The ram pushes the the rail to load, then a bleed valve and return spring brings it back.

Kudos to Steadyon for the ram idea.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below are the drawings for refining its operation.

The designed changed a bit, but its operation is the same.

    Project Marauder Sketch2
    Project Marauder Sketch3

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will initially build this from PVC, in large scale,
because it will make it easier to check its operation.

Once I am satisfied that it works correctly, i will make one in true scale,
so it can be incorporated into a Recon.
Once its in the gun, i can make more adjustments, until im happy.

After that stage of testing is done, it will be measured,
and I will get the whole lot fabricated from aluminium and billet.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone has questions or ideas relating to this, feel free to ask or comment.

Any negativity can be directed to your nearest brick wall.

I'll keep this thread updated as the project develops.

Ok this is going to be fantastic and its peicing together in my mind to. I have one question though how will you reload the clips will you have to pull back on the bolt or press the trigger slightly or somthing like that?

Good question actually.... I never really gave that much thought.

I always imagined the clip to be manual loaded.

But now that you mention it....

The locking mechanism that would usually hold back the bolt and rail is going to be removed.
Which poses the question: "How will the rail stay in place so you can load the clip?".

Im liking your idea to lightly hold the trigger.
Getting that to work without wasting too much air will be a challenge though.

I could simply add a mechanism that holds the rail in place for clip loading,
But i would run the risk of the rail getting caught in it, during the firing stoke.

Maybe, modify the bolt/rail or clip, so that it still functions the same way,
But allows for removal without sliding the rail back.

Dont know how to do this just yet.
You've given me something interesting to think about now.

    Thanks for the input.

    CLIP LOADING ISSUE RESOLVED

As mentioned before, the mechanism to hold the rail in place, has been removed.
    Which raised the question..

"How to hold the rail in place for clip loading?"

Looking at the case of the Recon gave me an idea.

There is a painted on "saftey", toward the back just above the grip.
    See Below.

Simply replace this with an actual working one then...

    Roberts your mother's brother.

    Problem solved.

Good to see someone with more time on their hands than me is pursuing this. Go forth and conquer blackops. Cheers for the kudos by the way.

BlackOps, Great work. Well done for thinking it out, planning and such. Good to see someone finally taking note of the recon, and its potential.

You are right. The recon has a huge amount of potential, in terms of hybrids anyway.

There isnt much to do on these things if you plan on using a plunger.

But think outside the case, and the potential for mods grows exponentially.

I feel the same way about the Raider, as its design and function is similar to a Recon.

Im not sure about the LS though, as i haven't seen the internals of one yet.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Are the internals of an LS similar to a Recon or Raider?

Within the next few months I'll have access to a 3D scanner and printer, might make fabrication a little more straightforward. Say if you wanted to use the original reciprocating mechanism from the recon, just scan it, import into CAD and CNC machine it.

    Just an option.

The 3D scanner would be very handy if you can scan the internal casing of all the guns, then we could CAD potential mods before making prototypes. Which file format would this 3D scanning output? Something AutoCAD, Inventor, Catia or SW compatible?

Its definitely IntelliCAD compatible, as thats the basis program we've been told to get used to.

So it's either dwg or dxf which are common AutoCAD formats. Looks promising, will you be making the scans public when you get them?

    Hey guys,

Dont mean to sound like admin (lol), buuuuutt...

    Please keep the posts on-topic,

Discussions about another subject clutters the thread, and could make it hard to follow the write-up.

Im not pointing fingers, or getting shitty with one... yet(lol).

Im just saying this in general to everyone who reads, or wishes to post in the thread.

    Much appreciated

This will be something very useful, as i do plan on getting the internals constructed of something better than plastic.

When you get your scanner, run it over a Recon, as most of the internals of the Marauder will be of Recon specs.
If you want to that is. Im not asking you to do it or anything. Up to you.
