2011 New Nerf Releases - The Definitive thread

Saw this on the Urban Taggers blog:

"Coming soon to a Toys R Us near you (if you're in the US), it's announced that Nerf have teamed up with electronics manufacturer Sakar to pop out some very interesting supplementary gear to their blasters. Last year there were things like speaker docks, but this time it looks like they'll be releasing:

-Night vision goggles for see-in-the-dark fun
-A digital helmet cam that can be mounted on either a helmet or bike
-A pocket DVR with a preview screen 2.1 and 5.1 MP digital cameras packaged with social networking software

Other products include a flash drive shaped like a Nerf Dart Blaster, an MP3 player, walkie talkies and flash light. More at Toy Xplosion. "

I saw this earlier as well.. and all I thought was.... helmet cam.. Aliens mod.. dribble! LOL

The pocket DVR sounds cool too and the night vision goggles. I've got the Modern Warfare 2 night vision goggles and they're a lot of fun.

A flash drive Nerf blaster.. that's going on my Xmas list lol

Someone'll mod it to be full-auto.

EDIT: I just ran through the original page in google translate, and they all reckon it won't be flywheel, because there's no space for it.

That super soaker has caught my eye. Why couldnt they announce these insted of that bloody re-paint of the Barricade.

does not look like it has the usual flywheel bulge, it may be something else.

I put my money on it being flywheel. Mainly because the darts are so far back you couldn't fit a spring in there anyways. If that is the case it will be just like the barricade, flywheels are on, trigger pushes in darts.

Semi-auto leaves very little choice, I'd go for flywheels as Joey and others have said. You can even see the same style of battery pack that the Barricade has, just above the clip.

Interesting though, the box says the blaster requires 4 batteries, and the clip 3. Given the Barricade only uses 3, I wonder what this says for its ranges. Hopefully they'll fix the annoying "always on" aspect of the stock Barricade as well.

If the final product is the same as this box art, I'll probably get one, even if only for the novelty value.

The barrcade doesn't have the 'flywheel' bulge either. They're set up vertically lol.

There was a "Lumitron" on a site somewhere. That was the picture. (Possibly a placeholder, or the Lumitron was an early name for the Praxis.) <- Read on Urban Taggers, IIRC

It is a Flywheel system.

It probably won't change much actually.
There's a lot more barrel to travel through than the Barricade and I'm not sure if the blaster itself lights up or not; so the extra battery is probably there to compensate for that.

The light is integrated in the clip. Look on the right hand side of the box

Anyone reckon they'll re-release the firefly to match the rayven?

So does anyone else just want to cut the front off and create a clip with bonus dart launching capabilities?

You are correct there are none on the gun, I mistook the jam door with the blue light coming out of it for some LEDs.

I wonder how heavy the clip would be, seems pretty cool anyways.

Yeah, I thought that when you said lights on the gun too, but then looking at the clip there's blue glowy stuff coming out the top, so I figured that was what it was.

thing is you could just use this clip in any other clip system gun to get the same effect.

The point is the glow darts are just a gimmick. I think maybe Nerf has taken a look at the clip fed barricades, and thought... hey! Let's out do them and make a bullpup... a combo between a clip fed barricade and some people always wanted! A Bullpup design!

I personally agree that most of this is gimmicky if you think about what we look for as a nerfing community. Ranges will most likely suck as with any stock blaster, and any improvements of it can only get so far, I can't imagine seeing this becoming a 100 foot flywheel blaster (although it'll be nice if someone proves me wrong).

The issue is that Nerf blasters can't have any further improvements on power for liability reasons, so they have to expand into other areas. Also bear in mind the non-modding community who can't make a clip-fed Barricade for whatever reason.

With that said, I can see some fun times using these for indoors wars in the dark, dependent on them selling the clips and so on separately.
