Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Unless they got there at midnight you'll find virtually all targets are out of Longshots (the toy sale) however toy guru has matched that price, so tell them to get them there

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Hey ChrisB. I now have a LongStrike Reverse Plunger, BoltSled and Catch available. If you need it for your 'aluminum' parts. I'll trade it for a LongShot Aluminum BoltSled. When you finally create it.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
If you want something which will be successful in every modders books. I suggest you make an aluminum pipe with custom dimensions.
A pipe with the right thickness and OD to make perfectly loadable clips using a breech system.
If you don't get what I mean see Drum magged Big Blast with PETG nested breech.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
It would need to be slightly bigger ID and OD as well having a bit more meat between but not as much as orange mitre10 conduit has.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
The external part of the breech that attaches to the clip only needs to be able to nest PETG perfectly.
Think of a nested PETG breech. The outside piping we need something which we can just snap on and off easily.

Does it really need to be aluminium, could it be a type of plastic?inf0rm3r wrote:If you want something which will be successful in every modders books. I suggest you make an aluminum pipe with custom dimensions.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
I will post up a diagram shortly.
It will need to be aluminium to provide durability, plastic works but I think a metal alternative would be great.

Im interested in the longshot boltsled and catch, how far away from finishing are you?
Also if a lot of WA nerfers want to bulk buy them it might be easy to get it sent in one package to save on freight

I dont have a long strike yet to make parts for
You only have to pay shipping for one part or set of parts the rest are free

I already told him I had LongStrike internals but he wants the whole gun so he can test it which is understandable.

Any chance of making it for a longstrike plunger? (as I don't have a recon & they're both very similar in design anyway)

Can you send me a few pictures of the plunger
Or
Measure from the centre axis perpendicular out to the furthest point

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Sure Chris, can do. I'll try to organise some pics/ dimensions for you within the next couple of weeks. (just until I can send you the longstrike for payment (pay week is next week )...that way if my dimensions are out, you can have a 1:1 reference of the plunger when you receive the longstrike.)
I'm assuming you won't start work on it until you recieve payment right?

I cant really start work on it until I have the part so I can accurately measure everything to make the part
If you like you can start by just sending the plunger, I only need the rest of the gun at the end to make sure it all works and make necessary changes

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Alright Chris, I'll let u know when I can send the plunger over.
Just a question though...I read on your site that using the aluminium plunger will decrease the range of the Nerf gun a little. Will your new thicker/reinforced plastic plungers have the same side effect too?
Cause I was thinking, if your thicker/reinforced plastic plunger can take more stress than standard plungers but still have similar if not better ranges than a standard plunger, wouldn't that be a more viable option?

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
They are only slightly thicker
The plastic I use is stronger then what the stock nerf stuff is made from, I dont know exactly by how much
Aluminium will take a lot more punishment then plastic ones.
With a stronger plunger you can increase the power beyond what can be done with the stock plastic one, something else will break before the aluminium part does
I don't know how durable the plastic ones are the I make, mine hasnt broken yet.

I think the shock test here is that you have to dry fire it about 100 times to know if it's going to break or not.

well i did 5 lots of 50 dry fire repetitions at a time
does that qualify as reliable enough?

Well considering your tagline is 'its strong than the normal one' I would say you would have to see how many dry fires it takes for the normal recon to break (with the same modifications) then see how many more you can do with your new piece.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
In regards to the longstrike aluminium plunger we were discussing about. I'm in negotiations (well, sort of. I'm 2nd in line...hopefully) for Rees85's longstrike. If it does end up going to me, I was gonna purchase it and have it sent to you.
It'll have the plunger I need inside, hence you can have your own reference model to make aluminium versions.
