Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Are you only doing the bolt sled for the longshot? or would you consider doing a plunger and tube for it as well? I can take some photo's of all the parts that would be awesome to have in metal if you like.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Sorry that took waaaay longer than I expected. I had to charge the camera. Always the bloody case isn't it?
so there's the full back of the longshot. I'm sure you're familiar with this.
The plunger assembly. that black bit coming out of the front might work as metal but I doubt it would need to be, I'm pretty sure the plunger doesn't actually impact on it. (I'll have to check)
The guts of the plunger assembly (ignore the cracked screw hole on mine I just broke it). Pretty much all of that could be metal as long as it slid nicely past itself.
And of course the catch would want to be metal too.
The trigger could even stand to be metal as well. ALthough truth be told I'd love a totally metal longshot.
I hope these give you a good idea of what I'm trying to show you. If you want any better pics or diagrams just let me know.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Can all be done in metal
The plastic disc on the right below the plunger, I havnt pulled mine apart, it looks like there is an o-ring around it. Is that the cylinder head?
maybe $40 for the lot

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Yeah that's the head.
When you get round to pulling yours apart have a look at the extra black piece I mentioned too. There's glue involved in getting it out so I haven't done it. I'm going to redo the breach though so I will have it out sometime soon so I can put a pic up then.
Does the $40 include the orange plunger tube too? You don't happen to live in Melbourne do you?

Does not include plunger tube, which parts can be made out of plastic?Psykka wrote:Yeah that's the head.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
I'd sat the tube could happily stay plastic.
The bolt sled, plunger cap, plunger rod and rear cap(the one with screws) would all want to be metal though. Along with the plunger catch as well.
So 5 metal pieces. One of which you are already working on.

it might be better off tapping a thread into the back of a ali plunger tube for the LS and then having either a cap or plug screw in and out for strength.
also let us know when the boltsleds for the ls come up for sale because now really eager for one

In my opinion the plunger rod and the tail part of the bolt sled can certainly be plasticPsykka wrote:I'd sat the tube could happily stay plastic.

Leaving the catch, both ends of the plunger and L part of the boltsled aluminium

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Yeah I'd say you're right.
Although The idea of having these pieces in metal is to be able to put bigger springs in. Do you think the screw that hold the plunger head on will strip the plastic plunger rod under those forces?

I'd give you like $200-$300 if you could make a longshot completely out of aluminium internals LOL. Must be precision!

Every but the barrel. Because I want to make my barrel from Brass. If you did make it I'd like you to do everything but the barrel.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
Chris, i see you said that you are short on time, but i might need some help from you (since you have a desktop cnc mill already).
If i was to send you the internal parts from a vulcan i need to have the part mirrored. This way i can reverse the belt feed on one of my vulcans.
Let me know if you think you can assist in this project.

I'll be making them out of plastic
can you first take some pics of the parts you want mirrored and include some reference like a dart and the axis in which you want the pieces mirrored

I want to mail you the actual parts that need to be mirrored, this way you can have the hard copy and can see exactly what need to be done.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
I havnt pulled the plunger apart to judge if that will be a problem but if your going to change the plunger head might as well change the internal rod while you're at itPsykka wrote:Yeah I'd say you're right.

Make the plunger rod out of tougher plastic and use a longer screw
I can always make all the parts in aluminium if requested

If you were making it for a longer screw would you ship out the type of screw to fit it?

Yes I'd send out the part complete, aluminium head and plastic/aluminium rod already screwed togetherPsykka wrote:chrisb wrote:

Made out of aluminium or durable plastic?Psykka wrote:Awesome, how much would it be for the plunger, boltsled and catch?
The bolt sled is made up of four parts and the plunger is in 2 parts
That's 7 parts in total
How about the back part of the plunger tube?
I should make up a website for pricing

It might be a good idea to have a web page for pricing so it's all clear that way you can have set discounts for bulk orders and so forth.

Hey Guys a forum noobie here.
I bought my longshot today and im already addicted to the idea of modding it haha
chrisb on your website you have a LS plunger. Am I under some sort of noob confusion or have you made the boltsled, plunger and catch for the longshot?
I'm keen on all metal internals too so as soon as you are open to orders I'll be grabbing one of everything.

Re: Aluminium nerf parts
The short version.
For the vertical part of the sled I was using 10mm aluminum. I have changed to 12.7mm in a better grade of aluminium. I had to changed a few things to accommodate this and am starting again.
The catches are all complete and have an extra lug for 2 springs if you choose.
I'm also working night shift this week
As I said before they should be all complete by the 25th

Hi Chris
Sorry about all that hullabaloo earlier about me sending you that longstrike as payment for an aluminium longstrike plunger. (page 6 of this topic)
Anyway it looks like I will getting that longstrike from Rees85 after all. Assuming that you're still okay with the deal we had previously, would it be okay if I had the longstrike sent to your work? Then you would have the plunger inside to work with.
